Taylor Fritz’s win over Frenchman, Arthur Rinderknech, in the second round at Roland-Garros has grabbed the headlines for all the wrong reasons. This is because Taylor Fritz got booed by the hostile French crowd who wanted Arthur to win, as he was the lone Frenchman left in the Men’s draw.
The crowd was trying to disrupt the rhythm of the Americans by singing the national anthem of France. The hostility went so deep into the fixture that Fritz was unable to serve his way, even while he was trying to serve for the match. Even the match official found it extremely tough to control the proceedings with the cheers from the crowd preventing Taylor from gathering thoughts while serving.

The referee was made to be a joke, with ‘shh’ sounds being made to mock him, whenever he tried to control them. But, Taylor didn’t let himself get flustered and held himself quite well to hold off the challenge by serving the match out. He then gave back the taste of their own medicine by making the ‘shh’ gesture at the crowd and further remarked that he cant hear them, as they booed again.
Taylor then mocked at the crowd, by blowing kisses towards them. But, not the ones to be perturbed, the French crowd kept continuing with their boos for a few more minutes. This made the post-match interview which was to be conducted by Marion Bartoli, nearly impossible.
Morgan Riddle reacts to the jeers directed at Taylor Fritz
Morgan Riddle, girlfriend of Taylor was quite amused with the entirety of the situation. Riddle, who usually accompanies her boyfriend for the majority of his matches was seen with a camera capturing the moment. Though, she admitted that they had an idea of what sort of circumstances they could be expecting during the match, the way Fritz was cornered was beyond their anticipation.
She continued, that it was quite shocking for her to be honest. But she credited her boyfriend saying, “…I think Taylor handled it exceptionally well and ultimately gave back to the crowd what they had been giving him for 3 hours.” She was particularly happy with her boyfriend overcoming such an extraordinary challenge with flying colors.
Some of the fans had consoling words for Fritz. They acknowledged that France may not be the best place concerning manners and the French crowd may be the worst in the world, but it is high time that some respect should be learned. Concluding, the fan went on to congratulate Taylor for his monumental effort and sent loads of love to him.
