The loud and boisterous atmosphere at the US Open is well known. Every year players and fans alike have either complained of the environment or admired it. This year, however, the match between Caroline Wozniacki and Petra Kvitova sparked the controversy yet again. Both former grand slam champions had to play through the loud chatter, unfortunately.
As soon as a video of the match was posted online, fans took to social media to show their disappointment. Tennis fans criticized and slammed the crowd for not showing respect and honor to previous Grand Slam champions.
Typical US Open Crowd this!
Absolutely disgraceful behaviour to show as little respect for two champs of the tennis worldCmon do better! https://t.co/MG8boptEIx

One user, @lolitagd, called Americans obnoxious and called it their least favorite grand slam. The user went as far as to be grateful for the time difference so that they were unable to watch the match. Another user, @LogisticsATX, replied to them saying the Americans haven’t been to any real matches. They added how the “Umpires Could Stop It, but They Don’t.”
My guess is none. And has never been to a real match. People talk all the time during these early round matches on center court. The umpires could stop it, but they don’t.

Fans remarked how the umpires had the authority to stop the chatter, however, they did not take any action for it. The US Open is famous for its ‘indisciplined’ crowd. From reports of fans smoking marijuana in the stands to talking loudly in between crucial points, players and fans have seen it all.
Caroline Wozniacki cruises through the second round to face Jennifer Brady
Wozniacki and Kvitova squared off after Caroline recently announced her return to tennis after an absence of nearly two years. The Dane remained composed and stopped Kvitova’s comeback attempt in the second set to win the match in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6(7-5).
From the beginning to the end, Wozniacki maintained a reasonable level of consistency. Because of this, she was able to take advantage of Kvitova’s errors at critical moments in the match. Wozniacki fought back in the tiebreaker and showed an incredible instinct against Petra, defeating her. Petra Kvitova took to X, formerly Twitter, to congratulate an old friend and rival. She commented how it felt like she had never retired.
It was like she never went away. Congrats on a great match @CaroWozniacki 👏
Wasn’t the happiest of US swings for me but I am taking it in my stride and always trying to find a bright side. See you soon NYC and thank you for your support, always ♥️ pic.twitter.com/p9sFmfokb0

This is her first Grand Slam competition since giving birth to two children in the last three years. After defeating Petra, her first match against a top-20 player since 2018, Wozniacki wiped away happy tears. This victory ended a run of seven straight defeats. After two children and retirement, Caroline is as strong as ever as she is getting ready for her comeback grand slam.
Caroline Wozniacki wipes happy tears away after getting her 1st top 20 win as a mom over Petra Kvitova.
She was always one of the brightest lights on tour.
A retirement & 2 children later & nothing’s changed.
Thanks for coming back, Sweet Caroline. 🥹❤️ pic.twitter.com/tBQdjrpGwq

In the next round of the Major, Jennifer Brady will square up against Caroline Wozniacki. Brady is also in her comeback season as she was unable to play for two years due to several injuries. In the fourth round, the victor of this matchup will take on either Coco Gauff or Elise Mertens.
