The tennis tour has now seen youngsters raise the standard of the game. The next generation already has a set of players who are dominating the sport. One of the game’s young stars, Holger Rune, has been increasing his influence on the ATP tour. Alongside his rise on tour, there have been allegations regarding his behavior, which has been described as cocky and arrogant.
Rune’s friend and fellow tennis player, Taylor Fritz, mentioned the statements regarding the player. Fritz spoke about how Rune’s confidence on and off the court has been misunderstood. He said, “I like Holger, he has big expectations and ambitions and people mistake that for cockiness.” The Danish player had talked about being part of the next big three in the sport.

Rune has had troubles during his matches on the tour. He offered a cold handshake to Casper Ruud at the net, which caught the attention of the fans. The 20-year-old was involved in a heated exchange with Stan Wawrinka at Indian Wells this season. After the match, both players exchanged words as fans began to remind Rune that he was the junior player and should have shown respect to Wawrinka.

The 2023 season saw Rune end up with 44 wins and 24 losses. Since making his tour debut in 2020, Rune has won more than 40 matches in a single season. The world No. 8 won 33 matches in the first half of the season and could only collect 11 victories in the second half. Rune reached the finals at Monte Carlo and Rome this year.
The Danish player was in good form on clay. He entered in five events and recorded 16 wins. Rune reached the finals on three occasions and entered the quarterfinals at the French Open. His only early exit on clay came at Madrid, where he lost in the third round even after hitting 44 winners in a three-hour match. Rune achieved his career-best ranking of No. 4 a few days before the US Open.

The three Grand Slam quarterfinalists are only six wins away from securing 100 career victories. Rune hopes to enter the last four majors and crack the top three in the rankings. He came close this season, but injuries and coaching troubles made him slip out of form. In the past few weeks, Rune has performed well and extended his coaching partnership with Boris Becker for the next season.
