In a picturesque corner of the world, in former Yugoslavia, in a time when tennis was just a distant dream for many, there was one kid who radiated pure joy. That kid, with a smile and twinkle in his eyes, was none other than Novak Djokovic. His parents had just gifted him his very first tennis racquet, a moment that would forever be etched in history.

Little did anyone know that day that a video would capture the sweet joy of the soon-to-be tennis kid, which would transcend time and borders, touching the hearts of millions around the globe. It offered a glimpse into the humble beginnings of a boy who would later become one of the greatest tennis legends, the world has ever seen.

Baby Novak’s first racket

On that day, the color of the racket didn’t matter. All that mattered to Baby Novak was having a racquet of his own. His father, Srdjan, lovingly presented him with his very first racquet in June of 1991, when Novak was just four years old. A throwback video reveals a pre-racquet Novak not in a playful karaoke mood until he gets his racket.

The color pink, though, seemed to suit Baby Novak just perfectly, adding to his adorable charm. But it wasn’t about the color, it was about the pure happiness that surged through him when he clutched that racquet in his tiny hands. He sang and danced, hardly able to contain his delight as if the world had never seen a happier child.

His excitement was palpable as he ventured out to play with his new possession. In an endearing imitation of professional tennis players, he ingeniously used his oversized pocket to hold the ball, gearing up for his very first underarm serve. Fast forward three decades to the present day, and Novak Djokovic now graces the biggest show courts, playing tennis at a level he had dreamt of as a tennis kid.

Tennis aim of 7-year-old Novak Djokovic captured in a video

From a young kid joyfully holding a pink racket to gracing the world stage, Novak Djokovic’s journey embodies determination, innate talent, and pursuit of excellence. It’s a touching tale that serves as a reminder that even the greatest legends start as ordinary kids but with very ambitious dreams.

As seen in this video when he was just seven years old, Djokovic confidently voiced his ambition to become the world no. 1 tennis player. Even at that tender age, he was winning tournaments against older boys, showcasing his remarkable skills and unwavering drive.
