Emma Raducanu is gearing up for a comeback in the new year. Raducanu had been sidelined due to injuries, but she is finally ready to grace the court again at the ASB Classic. Moreover, it seems that Emma will have a new coach to accompany her as well.
Raducanu has gained a bit of a reputation for changing coaches at the drop of a hat. The former US Open champion came under fire for her decision to let go of Andrew Richardson soon after her victorious run. Raducanu, who has not played since May due to her surgeries, also fired Sebastian Sachs in June. Since 2021, Emma has worked with five different coaches but has not found a winning formula with anyone.
“I ask my coaches a lot of questions. On certain occasions, they haven’t been able to keep up with the questions I’ve asked and maybe that’s why it ended,” said Raducanu.
With the new season looming ahead, Emma has been working with her childhood coach, Nick Cavaday. The young Briton has amped up her training under her old coach at the National Tennis Center. It is very likely that Cavaday will accompany her Down Under in the new year.
Nick is the brother of Naomi Cavaday, the former world number 174. Raducanu trained under both Nick and Naomi at the start of her professional career. As of now, Emma’s team has declined to comment on any potential partnership between Raducanu and Cavaday.
Emma Raducanu has been missing from action since she underwent surgeries on her wrists and ankle. She has always been plagued by injuries and has not played a full season to date. This makes her more inexperienced than her peers, even if she is a Grand Slam champion.
The lack of experience is affecting Emma Raducanu
Emma has achieved a lot more than her peers have in her short career. However, she is still more inexperienced than most of them. Since her debut, Raducanu has not played a full season or played a lot of matches. Most importantly, though, Emma has not played consistently.
Emma has struggled with consistency, as her form has wildly swung from good to bad in the span of days. Experience matters a lot in the sport, but unfortunately, Raducanu lacks it. Tim Henman recently shared words of advice for Emma, asking her to be patient ahead of the Australian Open.
“She’s been out for a long, long time and she’s still massively inexperienced. She’s played so few tour level events, she’s played so few matches in her whole professional career,” he said (via Tennis-Infinity).
Henman, like everyone else, wants the best for Emma Raducanu. The Briton has the ability to replicate her success. However, for the 21-year-old to find it, she needs to stay fit and healthy.
