Novak Djokovic will face an exciting new challenge post-US Open in the shape of a celebrity golf tournament leading up to the Ryder Cup. Djokovic and Gareth Bale are gearing up for an extraordinary showdown this month, but it’s not on the tennis court or the football pitch. The Slam history maker and Welsh football sensation are set to tee off in an All-Star studded match.
A host of other famous faces will take part in this celebrity match just two days before Europe faces the USA in the 44th edition of the prestigious Ryder Cup at the Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome on September 27. Djokovic will be putting his skills to the test alongside several other well-known sporting figures as well including Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz and former Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko.
Ten celebrities have been split into two teams of five, with each side captained by golf legends Colin Montgomerie and Corey Pavin. Djokovic will be on Team Monty alongside Bale, Dude Perfect star Garrett Hilbert, professional surfer Leonardo Fioravanti, and golfer Kipp Popert, who previously topped the world rankings for players with disabilities.

“I can’t wait to tee it up in Rome and experience the incredible atmosphere of Ryder Cup,” Djokovic exclaimed. He further added, “The course looks like a fantastic test of golf and my playing partner Kipp, a seasoned pro, has won lot on G4D Tour recently, so I’m confident we can get a point for team…going to be a great spectacle for fans.”
With the Ryder Cup right around the corner, this unconventional match-up is set to be a thrilling prelude to the historic golf tournament. Enthusiastic sports followers can tune in to witness all the excitement from Rome in anticipation of a truly remarkable occasion.
Novak Djokovic and his love for golf
Novak Djokovic, known for his exceptional tennis prowess, shares a passion for another sport – golf. Unlike his colleague Rafael Nadal, who is an adept golfer, Novak’s golfing abilities remain a mystery, but his enthusiasm for the sport is undeniable.
Djokovic openly admits his fondness for golf and acknowledges his proficiency in the sport. While there’s no official update on his golf handicap score, where a lower number indicates higher proficiency, Djokovic expresses his desire to play golf along with his greatest rival, Rafael Nadal, who has a scratch handicap, once he retires from tennis. Surely, he wants to play a competitive match rather than a friendly one!

Two years ago, Novak Djokovic while in Rome for the Tennis Masters event, decided to take a break to immerse himself in the greenery of the Parco di Roma Golf Club. For a couple of hours, he escaped from the thoughts and competitive stress that often accompany professional tennis. During this serene escape, he found respite from the competitive stress of professional tennis.
An amusing golf anecdote involving Djokovic showcases the passionate golfer within him. During Wimbledon, Djokovic turned up at a local golf club, dressed in jeans and a baseball hat, and casually walked into the clubhouse, just wanting to play golf. To his surprise, the club’s manager informed him that his attire was against the rules in the clubhouse. A frustrated Djokovic left without teeing off!
