- Jessica Pegula got exhausted after answering a typical question regarding her grand slam performances.
Jessica Pegula has started the 2024 WTA season on a busy note. She has played seven matches so far, including three doubles matches. Pegula is currently playing at the Adelaide International and has reached the quarterfinals of the event. She had previously played at the United Cup but could not find much success at the event. Pegula has not been playing her best at Adelaide so far.
The American has spent over four hours in her first two matches at Adelaide. After her quarterfinal win, Pegula was asked about her quarterfinal record in the Grand Slams. She said, “Don’t ask me the same question, you already know that my intention is to win in the quarterfinals. My goal is always to reach the second week.” Pegula mentioned that losing was a part of the game.

The world No. 5 has never progressed beyond the quarterfinals of a grand slam. Pegula has so far lost six quarterfinal grand slam matches in her career. She hopes to change the record in the next few days and achieve a new milestone in the majors. Pegula made her grand slam debut in 2015 at the US Open and played the rest of the three majors four years later.
Jessica Pegula is close to breaching her career-winning mark at Australia
The fifth edition of the Adelaide International has so far seen three of the top five seeds make an early exit. Only Pegula and Jelena Ostapenko have survived the opening encounters in the event. Pegula is now the top seed after the exit of Elena Rybakina. The 29-year-old will face Daria Kasatkina in the semifinals. Kasatkina has not won a set against Pegula in their last two meetings on the tour.
Pegula will hope for a victory in Adelaide to boost her chances at the Australian Open. She is two wins away from completing 400 career wins. The former world No. 3 will be playing in her fifth consecutive Australian Open. Pegula has lost in the quarterfinal stage in the last three editions of the event. She has been most consistent in Australia as compared to the other three grand slams.
Pegula will begin the proceedings in Melbourne against a qualifier. The final qualifying round matches will take place on the 12th of January, and Pegula’s opponent will be confirmed within a day. She is poised to have a smooth passage in the first two matches and has a chance of facing Lin Zhu in the third round. Pegula will now be focused on her semifinal battle in Adelaide and can then move to Melbourne.
