Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has been busy, despite being away from the tennis courts this year. Kyrgios has a sharp sense of humor and does not shy away from speaking his mind. And he did just that, as he poked fun at Piers Morgan for his comment on Serena Williams.
Kyrgios has not played competitive tennis for almost the entirety of the year. However, he did not totally distance himself from the sport, as he made his commentary debut at the Nitto ATP Finals. Moreover, he has been doing several interviews and podcasts, dropping interesting nuggets of information.
Kyrgios recently appeared on a show hosted by Piers Morgan. The Australian spoke candidly on a number of subjects and even poked fun at the host if an opportunity arose. It did when Morgan played an old clip of himself, winning a point off Williams.
“You looked in a bit better shape back then, Piers.”

Morgan took Nick’s comment about not knowing what elite players go through to heart. Piers jokingly accused Kyrgios of forcing his hand as he played the old clip.
“I didn’t want to play that clip, but you forced me into it with your taunting about not being an elite-level tennis player. That is me beating the greatest female tennis player in history,” Morgan told Kyrgios (via Daily Express).
Nick was impressed with Morgan’s technique, as he added that the host was in better shape back then. The Australian star went on to propose that Morgan should play a match against him when he recovers. While Kyrgios joined Morgan in the banter, he did share a fiery working relationship with Williams.
Nick Kyrgios got candid about his experience of playing with Williams
Serena is one of the undisputed GOATs of all time. In her long career, Williams won 23 major singles titles and 14 doubles titles with her sister Venus Williams. Serena was a prolific player and even played some mixed doubles matches.
Playing with Serena was a dream come true moment for Kyrgios. However, the reality of playing with her turned out to be very different for him. He recalled that it was an uncomfortable experience for him because Serena was dominating on the court.
“I’ve hit with Serena before I’ve played mixed doubles with her at IPTL. And it was like the most uncomfortable experience for me,” said Kyrgios.
Nick Kyrgios is gearing up to make a comeback next year. While there are still uncertainties about his health, his recovery is going well. Fans eagerly await his return.
