SUMMARY
- Mirra Andreeva staged an epic comeback against Diane Parry.
- There was a dramatic moment when she bit her arm in frustration, leaving a visible impression.
The first week of the Australian Open has been sensational thus far. All the players have given their best, even if the final result did not go their way. Many staged magnificent comebacks like Russian teen Mirra Andreeva did. However, a particular behavioral trait came to the fore in Melbourne when she took on Diane Parry.
Mirra took on the Frenchwoman in the third round of the major tournament. Both players had won a set each, and the match went into a decider. Mirra was staring into the jaws of defeat as she trailed behind Parry in the final set. When the scores were at 2-0, with Diane in the lead, Andreeva smashed an easy backhand into the net.
The teen was visibly very frustrated with herself since she could not convert an easy point. Andreeva ended up biting herself on her left bicep. She bit quite hard too, since it left a clear impression on her skin.
Mirra fell further behind, as Parry was in cruise control in the decider, leading the scores 5-1. The Russian was almost in tears before she staged one of the best comebacks seen at the Australian Open.
After Iga Swiatek, who pulled off a stunning victory over Danielle Collins, it was Mirra’s turn. She won the next five games on the trot and served for the match. Parry did not let her off easily, as she broke Andreeva’s serve, and the winner had to be decided via a super tiebreak. Mirra eventually went on to win the tiebreak and the match 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (10-5).

Mirra Andreeva will hope to continue in this vein when she plays next. She will take on the winner of the match between Barbora Krejcikova and Storm Hunter for a spot in the quarterfinals. Can she keep up this winning momentum? We will soon find out.
