Federer had asked his friend, Anna Wintour, chief content officer of Conde Nast, to capture his final moments on the tour. Once they viewed the precious memories at the Laver Cup, it was confirmed that it should be a full-featured documentary. Fans will now see inside Federer’s home for the first time. It also includes interviews with Mirka Federer, who did interviews for the first time since 2014.
The documentary will examine Federer’s rivals, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. The Laver Cup moments can be revisited, as it was the last event for the Swiss maestro. The documentary director, Kapadia, won the Best Documentary Feature award at the Oscars in 2016 for “Amy.” Meanwhile, the Federer documentary may be released during Wimbledon this year.
Documentaries on Roger Federer
Documentaries have been made previously on Federer. But it has been mainly focused on his time spent on the court and his rivals. One of the earliest documentaries on the former world No. 1 was “Roger Federer vs. Pete Sampras: The Changing of the Guard.” It was released in 2007 when Federer ended their 31-match winning streak with Samparas at the 2001 Wimbledon Championships.
In 2008, yet another Wimbledon classic was released as a documentary. “Wimbledon Official Film 2008” focused on the final match between Nadal and Federer. In 2009, the story continued at Wimbledon as “Wimbledon Official Film 2009,” showing Federer winning a record 15th grand slam title. One of the latest documentaries was “Roger Federer Reunion,” released in 2021.
