Madison Keys is not having a good time at the end of the 2023 season. She could not qualify for the WTA finals and is currently playing at the WTA Elite in Zhuhai, China. Keys had the worst start to the event as she lost the opening match to Beatriz Haddad Maia, 4-6, 4-6, in an hour and 39 minutes. It was the first meeting between the pair, and the fans were expecting Keys to win the match.
As soon as the match was over, fans began abusing Keys on social media. The American will have to bounce back, as the fans are extremely unhappy with her current form. “I honestly don’t know is brain dead, a match fixer, or both,” commented one fan after Keys lost the match. Maia registered a straight-set victory for the first time in two months.
I honestly don’t know @Madison_Keys is brain dead, a match fixer or both.
Chokes away BOTH sets to love. One of the worst, least poised tennis players the world has ever seen.
I lean toward brain dead because match fixing takes a little talent, which she simply doesn’t have.

Another Madison Keys special. Absolutely no chance she wins this match and she’ll never ever win a major – poor mentality.

One fan vowed that they would never again see her playing. “Dear Madison Keys, I will never watch a match of yours again,” commented the fan as Keys lost control of the match.
Dear Madison Keys, I will never watch a match of yours again.

The world No.11 committed four double faults and failed to convert 6 of her seven breakpoint chances. Maia ended her two-match losing streak on the tour. Keys will next play against Caroline Garcia and will hope to win her fifth consecutive match against the world No.20.
Madison Keys not able to hold onto winning streak at end of season
Keys started the 2023 season with a seven-match winning streak, which ended at the Australian Open. She went on to reach the quarterfinals in Dubai and Charleston. The 28-year-old won her first title of the season on the grass at Eastbourne. She defeated Daria Kasatkina in the finals and did not drop a single set while taking the title. Kasatkina had defeated her a few months back at Charleston.
Keys had a nine-match winning streak on grass and looked in good form at Wimbledon. She lost to Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. Keys again lost to Sabalenka in the semifinals of the US Open. The former world No.7 had bageled the Belarusian in the opening set and lost the next two sets at the tiebreak.
Keys needs to win her next match at the ongoing WTA Elite event. Her loss to Maia in the first match has given her a major setback. Keys will need to improve her serve and convert the crucial points in her favor. The 2017 US Open finalist hopes to surge a comeback against Garcia and give her fans what they deserve.
