SUMMARY
- Andrey Rublev has now secured a win in his appeal against the controversy that occurred in Dubai.
- Andrey Rublev had to pay a hefty fine for his behavior.
The Dubai Duty-Free Championships this season saw the winning streak of Russians come to an end. While Daniil Medvedev failed to defend his title, Andrey Rublev suffered an unfortunate end to his match. Rublev had to forego the prize money and ranking points earned in Dubai in the semifinal match. He appealed the case to the ATP.
The ATP ruled the case in favor of Rublev. In a statement by the ATP, it said, “The appeals committee concluded that, beyond forfeiting the match, customary penalties associated with a default – namely loss of rankings points and prize money for the entire tournament – would be disproportionate in this case.” Rublev shall pay the fine of $36,400 for the code violation.

Andrey Rublev is eager to record his best performance at Indian Wells this season
The 2024 edition of the Indian Wells will see the 50th anniversary of the event. It is the first Masters 1000 event of the season. Players will have plenty of ranking points and prize money up for grabs this week at Indian Wells. Rublev hopes to improve his track record at the event in his sixth appearance. He had lost in the fourth round at Indian Wells last year.
The 26-year-old had made his debut at the main draw of Indian Wells in 2018 and lost in the opening round to Taylor Fritz. Rublev’s best performance at the event came in 2022 when he reached the semifinals without losing a set. He went on to lose to eventual champion Fritz in straight sets. This season, Rublev will hope to deliver his best performance at Indian Wells.
Rublev can also make history by becoming the first Russian to win the title at Indian Wells. He won his first Masters 1000 title last year at Monte Carlo and can do the same this season. Rublev could face Andy Murray or a qualifier in his opening match at Indian Wells. The main draw matches will begin on March 7.
