Khabib Nurmagomedov is as big a star as any in the sporting world. The Dagestani fighter holds the record of the longest undefeated streak in the history of mixed martial arts. He is a two-time Combat Sambo World Champion, and the reigning UFC lightweight champion of the world. Khabib was born on the 20th of September in the year 1988. He was born in a small village of Sildi, in Dagestan, that was an autonomous state at the time. Khabib is a devout follower of Islam, and has become a face for Islam in the sporting world, alongside great names like Muhammad Ali, and Mo Farah.

Khabib Nurmagomedov holds the record for the longest undefeated streak in the history of mixed martial arts. Nurmagomedov defeated Al Iaquinta at UFC at UFC 223 to win the vacant UFC lightweight championship, and has since then successfully defended it twice.
Khabib Nurmagomedov made his MMA debut way back in 2008 at the age of 20. He cruised his way past the Russian promotions, and made his UFC debut in 2012. Khabib’s rivalry with Conor goes beyond the octagon, and continues to even today. Khabib beat McGregor at UFC 249 in his first title defense via submission in the fourth round. It’s been long debated that Khabib has never lost a single round inside the octagon, however judges scorecards from UFC 249 showed that McGregor had the third round to his name, making him the first fighter to get a round win over Khabib.

It’s been long debated that Tony Ferguson is the fighter who can hand Khabib his first loss inside the octagon. However, the fight has failed to capitalize on four different occasions. Soon after his emphatic win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, The Eagle announced his retirement from the sport. Taking on a formidable foe in the form of Justin Gaethje, Nurmagomedov succesfully defended his lightweight strap in the main-event of UFC 254 via submission in the second round.

“Thank you for these guys, these guys with me, been with my father for more than 10 years. All my team, AKA with coach Javier, I love him so much, all my team. Today, I want to say, this was my last fight. No way am I going to come here without my father. It was first time, after what happened with my father, when UFC called me about Justin. I talk with my mother three days, she don’t want that I go fight without father. I promised her, it’s going to be my last fight, and if I give my word, I have to follow this. It was my last fight here.” Khabib said in the post-fight interview.

Nurmagomedov retired with an impeccable record of 29-0 in his MMA career. A record that some can only wish for, needless to say, Nurmagomedov will go down as argubaly the greatest mixed martial artist of all time.

Khabib Nurmagomedov retires as P4P best

Soon after his retirement fight, The Eagle just had one wish from the UFC – to put him on top of the UFC’s pound-for-pound list.

I know only one thing I want from UFC, you guys have to be me on No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, because I deserve this. UFC undisputed, undefeated lightweight champion, 13-0, 13 in UFC, 29 in all pro MMA career. I think I deserve it.” Khabib said.

Soon after, UFC’s new pound-for-pound list put Khabib Nurmagomedov right at the top of the P4P list and rightfully so. With notable victories over former champion, and a career than some can only wish for, Nurmagomedov became the first Russian fighter to grab the top spot in UFC’s pound-for-pound list.
