The Marvel Universe keeps on expanding, and the Spiderman franchise by Insomniac Games is truly working on its expansions to the limit. The gaming community has felt a significant impact from these games, and the anticipation for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has skyrocketed. It’s a natural response to seek comparisons.
The sequel not only comes with an escalated price tag but also steps into the domain of dual protagonists, allowing players to experience being both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. This development raises many questions. Is the new game worth the additional investment? Does it live up to the original start of this whole franchise?
For fans of the franchise, it’s obviously a big part of their gaming routine to think and look for the differences between the sequel and the first. People will always remember the impact of Spiderman 1 on PS4 and how it created a wave, so with that, there will be a comparison to the newer addition to the franchise as well
Spiderman 1 vs Spiderman 2 gameplay
When it comes to the changes made to gameplay for Spiderman 2, the most major addition is the use of the venom symbiote in the game itself. The inclusion of the suit gives way to a much more aggressive form of game combat. Unlike the first game, where the combat style was practical and on point to Spiderman’s character, this time it just gets aggressive and brutal.
This change makes the combat system similar to that of Batman: Arkham series or Web of Shadows. The darker tone extends beyond combat, affecting even Peter’s interactions with other characters, including Miles Morales.
The sequel also makes welcome adjustments to web-swinging and traversal. Insomniac Games has responded to fan feedback by increasing the web-swinging speed for both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. The studio has also introduced new traversal mechanics, such as a wingsuit, which promises to be crucial for navigating new regions in the game.
Lastly, Spiderman 2 is introducing the much-anticipated feature of character swapping, although it’s unclear if this will be available during free roam. All these improvements point towards a richer, more dynamic gameplay experience in Spiderman 2 compared to its predecessor.
Spiderman 1 vs Spiderman 2 reviews
Transitioning to the review section, the first Spiderman game won acclaim for its riveting narrative that adeptly balanced the challenges faced by Peter Parker with his heroic exploits. Critics praised the game’s combat system for its emphasis on agility and speed, even though it didn’t introduce revolutionary changes.
In contrast, Spiderman 2 seems to have fine-tuned the existing formula. Initial reviews spotlight the sequel’s intense action sequences and an even more intricate storyline. But still, the game has its own flaws as well. Some critics argue that the combat mechanics could have been changed for the newer sequel and that the activities of the open world could have been more creative.
Spiderman 1 vs Spiderman 2 sales
Now, shifting focus to sales performance, Marvel’s Spiderman for PS4 had sold 3.3 million copies in just the first three days of its release. It very easily became the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive which ended up even surpassing God of War, a game of its own level.
Spider-Man 2 is comfortably No.1 in the UK physical charts this week. It’s the 4th biggest UK boxed launch of the year, behind Zelda, EA Sports FC and Hogwarts Legacy. Physical launch sales are 20% lower than what God of War Ragnarok managed last year. Digital data still to come

Not a lot has been given out about the sales of Marvel’s Spiderman 2, but it has already been predicted to be one of the best-selling games from Sony. These predictions are being made due to the fact that Spiderman on PS4 has been such a huge success, going up to the top of the list. Hence many consider the recent addition of the franchise to have the same results
In conclusion, both titles present compelling cases for being must-have games. The original game really held its own and created a path for Spiderman 2, many of the beloved systems of the previous game have been crossed over with the addition of new systems in place, which makes clear that Spiderman 2 has an upper hand but it still needs to deal with some flaws.
