SUMMARY
- Manchester City has been one of the most difficult teams to beat due to skilled players like De Bruyne and Haaland.
- After joining Chelsea and not having a good start, De Bruyne was mostly loaned out for the season.
Kevin De Bruyne has been a midfield sensation for Premier League giants Manchester City over the years. The Belgium international is one of the most pivotal figures in City’s dominant march to the top of English soccer in recent times.
Manchester City has become a tough team for the opposition to win a game against. It is majorly due to the club led by Pep Guardiola exerting authority in the middle of the park with players like Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri. Moreover, Kevin De Bruyne’s link-up with City’s striker Erling Haaland causes all sorts of havoc for the opposition’s defenders.
However, things didn’t quite work out for KDB in England at the start of his Premier League career. After joining Chelsea FC in January 2012, he made only a few appearances at the highest level for the Londoners. He was loaned out to other European teams for the majority of his stint with the club and then was sold later.
The real reason behind Chelsea letting Kevin De Bruyne go
The veteran Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho was in charge of Chelsea when Kevin De Bruyne was still trying to find his feet at Chelsea. However, the Belgian player wasn’t able to break into the team under Mourinho before finally being sold in the 2015 summer transfer window to Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg.

Jose reportedly inserted the reason behind the Blues letting KDB and his former teammate Mohamed Salah go. “To be honest, they left because they wanted to leave. They left because they didn’t want to wait”, the 61-year-old asserted.
After lauding the career that both the players had Jose further opined – “but sometimes kids make decisions like that because they can’t wait or they don’t have the patience to be calm and to wait for the right moment”. It can be drawn that, Jose wanted to wait for the right opportunity to give them their chances, but KDB and Salah had made up their mind to leave.
Kevin De Bruyne’s numbers for Chelsea
Kevin De Bruyne only played a sum of nine games for Chelsea including all the domestic and international competitions. In the Barclays Premier League, he made three appearances for the Blues. During these three games, he managed to score a single goal.
His other three outings for the club Came in the UEFA Champions League. The remaining three matches for Chelsea were played by him in the domestic League Cup in England. However, the Champions League outings made by him were majorly devoted to small substitute appearances.
KDB’s current club Manchester City bought him from VfL Wolfsburg in August 2015. Since then he has played a sum of 369 games for City. In his tenure with the club so far he has managed to register an enthralling number of 165 assists and further scored 98 goals.
