Pep Guardiola didn’t resist taking a dig at his fellow rivals Liverpool after the Red’s recent Carabao Cup triumph. During one of his press conferences after the Carabao Cup final, Guardiola was spotted questioning the significance of the prestigious trophy won by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
As reported by soccer transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Pep Guardiola stated – “I still remember when I arrived at City (Manchester City), Briam Kidd told me: Carabao Cup, don’t pay attention! Play young players, nobody cares”. Sir Alex Ferguson (former Manchester United manager) was always, eugh it doesn’t matter”.

This statement by Pep straight after Liverpool lifted the 2023-2024 Carabao Cup trophy after defeating Chelsea at Wembley can be taken as his ironical take on the Reds’ triumph. “Phwoar, I don’t know what happened in the last years!”, concluding his thoughts on the uprising value of the trophy Pep further inflicted.
However, it must be pointed out that the Carabao Cup is one of the oldest titles in English soccer. It holds the same significance as the Premier League trophy and the FA Cup title. Pep Guardiola has managed Manchester City many times in the competition himself. Here we take a look at whether he’s been able to lift the prestigious trophy or not.
Has Pep Guardiola ever won a Carabao Cup with Manchester City?
Pep Guardiola won three back-to-back Premier League titles with Manchester City. He also completed a much-talked-about treble with the English club. It happened when he led City to Champions League glory and FA Cup triumph in 2022-2023 alongside their Premier League title.

However, the Spanish manager has also won the Carabao Cup more than once. The 53-year-old managed to get his hands on the trophy four times by winning it in the 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020, and 2020-2021 seasons respectively with Manchester City. This makes him one of the rarest managers in English top-flight soccer to win all the domestic trophies.
Who has won more domestic titles? Manchester City or Liverpool
The Premier League giants Manchester City have won a tally of 30 domestic titles in England till now. Their trophies include nine Premier League titles, eight league cups, six FA Community Shields, and FA Cups seven times. On the other hand, their rival Liverpool has registered 55 domestic titles to their name so far.
Liverpool’s trophy cabinet includes 10 League Cups, 19 Premier League titles, one London Charity Shield Cup, eight FA Cup titles, a magnificent number of 16 FA Community Sheild trophies, and one Football Super Cup. There will be no doubts among the supporters of both clubs, that they can further add to their trophies tally in the times ahead.
