SUMMARY
- Eliza Samudio, was a Brazilian model. She started dating Bruno Fernandes de Souza, an established goalkeeper in Brazil.
- Bruno had hired criminals to kill his girlfriend Eliza.
Eliza Samudio was another up-and-coming model from Brazil. Like many girls from the South American nation, Eliza too wanted to achieve her dream of becoming a model someday. Her life was perfect, she had found love in a man named Bruno Fernandes de Souza. Bruno was a prominent member of the Brazilian soccer scene and had established himself as a decent goalkeeper.
However, things quickly turned sour. The Brazilian goalkeeper hatched an ingenious plan that culminated in one of the most spine-chilling murders in Brazilian history. What is more sad is the fact that Bruno Fernandes de Souza’s crimes still went largely unpunished serving little justice to the poor soul of Eliza Samudio.
Bruno Fernandes de Souza plotted a horrific murder of his girlfriend
The details of the crime still haunt Brazilians to this day. Bruno employed a gang of criminals to murder his girlfriend at the time Eliza. The gang then proceeded to kidnap the model who was first beaten up and then murdered. The most disturbing part of the crime happened next. Bruno then dared to feed his pet rottweilers the dismembered parts of his dead girlfriend.
The crime led to a public outcry in Brazil and the entire country in unison demanded the arrest of the Brazilian goalkeeper. The voices were heard and in 2010, the judicial authorities sentenced Bruno to 22 years in prison. Interestingly, the soccer player was married when he met Eliza and cheated on his wife with the Brazilian model. He even had a child with Eliza Samudio.
Reportedly, Bruno killed his girlfriend over the child. While his model girlfriend wanted to have the child, the soccer player wanted Eliza to have an abortion.
The Brazilian goalkeeper has still managed to find a club to play soccer
The Brazilian soccer fans had naturally believed that Bruno’s soccer career had been ruined after the sentence and justice had been served. However, they were massively misled as the court converted the closed prison sentence into a semi-open one in 2019. This meant that Bruno could play soccer during the day and return to his cell at night. The murderer then managed to receive parole in January 2023.
This is when the second-division Brazilian club Boa Esporte, pounced and signed the goalkeeper to a 2-year deal. The club had to face a lot of criticism for this as three of its sponsors cut ties with Boa Esporte. The growing crimes against women especially in soccer, raise various questions about the patriarchy in the soccer world.

After, Greenwood, Antony became the second United player in recent times to be accused of a crime against women. The stakeholders in the soccer world alongside the law enforcement agencies need to quickly devise a plan to stop soccer players assaulting their partners.
