One such ideal that has shaped his career is respect for others and inclusivity in the sport. Along with many soccer fans, Ramos also believes that there is no place for racism in this beautiful game.
Sergio Ramos wants soccer to be free from racism
Over the past few years, the game has seen a rise in cases of racism in soccer. The fans have abused certain players of skin both on the pitch and online. The players have felt devastated by these incidents, as they have dearly cost them their mental peace. However, Sergio Ramos has had enough of this.
The former Real Madrid captain faced racism when his team, Sevilla, faced Getafe CF on matchday 25 of La Liga 23/24. The Getafe fans had shouted ‘monkey’ chants at Sevilla’s Argentine defender Marcos Acuna and called their coach, Quique Sanchez Flores, a ‘gypsy’.
Sergio Ramos looked quite enraged by the abuses hurled and took matters into his own hands after the game. He said, “It is time to point them out and prohibit them from entering, this must be a sport to unite, not to separate.”
The 38-year-old defender believes that the League has taken a very defensive approach in tackling the problem of racism. Therefore, the league authorities should drastically change their approach and punish the guilty people.
Sergio Ramos has called on La Liga to identify these perpetrators and ban them from being spectators at matches to curb racism. The former Paris Saint-Germain defender’s anger is justified when one understands the problem of racism in Spain. Despite the controversy, Sevilla was able to defeat Getafe 1-0, thanks to a goal from birthday boy Sergio Ramos.
Many players have complained about being racially abused by fans during the match. The worst victim in this regard is Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. The Brazilian has been mercilessly targeted by Spanish soccer fans who mock the color of his skin.

The 23-year-old has tried to fight against the abuses by taking to social media and expressing his anger. But it seems that this whole fiasco has taken a mental toll on Vinicius Jr., who broke down at a press conference while speaking on the topic of racism. None of the players from his league have come out to speak against this problem.
However, the Brazilian will be happy to know that he is no longer alone in this fight. Vinicius Jr. has a strong figure like Sergio Ramos by his side and would expect the La Liga authorities to start making some crucial decisions to stop racism soon.
