SUMMARY
- Even though Cristiano Ronaldo and Rio Fernand are not playing together anymore, they are still in contact.
- Cristiano Ronaldo made a post on Instagram regarding the event that he attended.
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest players in soccer history and his teammate Rio Ferdinand also believes the same. The two are great friends and meet up regularly, with Rio often traveling to Saudi Arabia to meet his old pal and share some fond memories with him.
Rio Ferdinand and Cristiano Ronaldo are no longer teammates, but they have maintained contact. Due to the great unity that existed amongst that club—which saw three Premier League titles and the Champions League—both played significant roles in the incredibly successful Manchester United team. Their friendship has lasted for a long period on and off the field.

However, recently Cristiano Ronaldo attended a boxing event that had famous stars walk in and former UFC champion Conor McGregor was one of them. In addition, Cristiano Ronaldo made a post on Instagram regarding the event that he attended but Rio commented on his post, “Hmmmm….”it’s dark inside bro.” This was some kind of a cryptic message/comment towards his friend which soccer fans are trying to decode.
However, some soccer fans believe that the comment was because of Conor Mcgregor continuously having a conversation with Ronaldo and his (Ronaldo’s) expressions which looked like he was bored were the reason behind Rio’s comment. Although, these are just what the fans think and no proof or proper fact has been revealed behind the reason for that comment.
Rio Ferdinand prefers the Saudi Pro League over Major League Soccer
Rio Ferdinand believes that the Saudi Pro League is superior to the Major League Soccer (MLS) and that Cristiano Ronaldo has received undue criticism when compared to his longstanding opponent Lionel Messi. Ferdinand and Ronaldo share a very good friendship and have been in contact for many years.
Ronaldo, 38, and Messi, 36, have departed from Europe to start fresh journeys on their respective continents. The Argentine hero joined MLS team Inter Miami in July, while the Portuguese legend went to Saudi Pro League powerhouse Al-Nassr in January.

For his friend Cristiano Ronaldo, the Manchester United star claimed he would have preferred to play in the Saudi Pro League rather than the Major League Soccer. He believes there is better competition: “If I had not retired 100%, I would go to Saudi Arabia without thinking and without a doubt. The USA? No, the Saudi Pro League is much better than MLS,” said Rio Ferdinand on his preference.
Many people celebrated Lionel Messi’s arrival in the United States when he declined a move to Saudi Arabia with Al-Hilal and a possible return to Barcelona. Cristiano Ronaldo, the highest-paid footballer in the world, faced criticism for his choice to go to Saudi Arabia.
Ronaldo now has company in the Middle East with players like Neymar, Karim Benzema, and N’Golo Kante among others. On the other hand, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, two former Barcelona colleagues, have joined Lionel Messi at DRV PNK.
