- Jurgen Klopp side Liverpool faced Crystal Palace at Anfield.
- Crystal Palace defeated Liverpool by 1-0.
The 2023-24 Premier League season has taken yet another interesting turn after Liverpool lost against Crystal Palace. Until today’s game, Liverpool had a strong chance to win the Premier League with Arsenal and Manchester City also challenging for the title. However, coach Jurgen Klopp might not get the farewell he wanted after his side’s defeat at home.
Liverpool faced the 14th-placed Crystal Palace at Anfield with six games left in the league. While most fans would have expected an easy win for the Merseyside club, Crystal Palace left Jurgen Klopp’s team stunned with a 1-0 win. Eberechi Eze’s 14th-minute goal was enough to seal a victory for Oliver Glasner’s men as Liverpool’s title hopes took a huge blow.
Despite conceding an early goal, Klopp’s side had plenty of chances to equalize. However, it was an unusually wasteful day for Liverpool’s forwards, with the likes of Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, and Curtis Jones missing one-on-one chances. Nevertheless, credit goes to Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson who did a brilliant job to keep Liverpool at bay.
Interestingly, it was a second consecutive home defeat for Jurgen Klopp’s men following their 0-3 defeat against Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League. Following the loss against Palace, winning the Premier League would prove to be a Herculean task for Klopp. Currently, Liverpool are placed third in the league with 71 points. Manchester City leads the table with 73 points, while Arsenal is in second place with 71 points and with a game in hand.
Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp looks frustrated after Crystal Palace loss
Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp appeared visibly frustrated in the post-match interview after the defeat against Crystal Palace. Klopp, who announced earlier this season that he would leave the club in the summer, could have got a perfect farewell with his team winning the Premier League. However, following today’s defeat, Klopp’s chances of winning a second Premier League title appear slim.
“Feel really really rubbish”

In the post-match interview, Klopp lamented his team’s subpar performance. He admitted that his team made similar mistakes like the ones against Atalanta and during the recent 2-2 draw against Manchester United. The ex-Borussia Dortmund coach said, “This one feels really, really rubbish. I need time to process that.”
🔴 Klopp on title race potentially over for his team: “The answer is pretty easy. If we play like that in first half, why would we win the league?”.

Klopp further admitted that if his team continues to put in performances like today, they don’t deserve to win the league. Although, he did praise his team’s effort for trying to fight for an equalizer in the second half against Palace. While Klopp might not have completely given up his hopes for the league title, after today’s result, Liverpool’s chances depend upon Manchester City and Arsenal dropping points in their remaining fixtures.
