Premier League CEO Richard Masters recently touched upon the issue and upcoming trial: “I can understand the frustration of Everton and Forest fans. There is a date {for Manchester City] but I can’t tell you when it is.” Manchester City are currently two points behind Liverpool after 20 games in the Premier League. They came from behind against Newcastle United to register a 3-2 victory on January 13.
What sanctions can Manchester City expect if found guilty?
While the CEO of the Premier League is not revealing any date for the trial. Daily Mail reported that the trial can be expected in late autumn of 2024. The charges include allegations of falsified financial reporting and noncompliance with the Premier League’s FFP rules.
As per recent cases, it is safe to assume that a points’ deduction is the bare minimum that Manchester City fans can expect if their club is found guilty of these charges. However, there are 115 charges, if all or majority of the charges were accepted in the trial, then the points deduction penalty can be so severe that it might result in the relegation of the current Premier League champions.
Everton and Nottingham Forest deserve punishment but would Manchester City be treated this toughly? As the wait goes on over their alleged 115 breaches, the answer is clearly no.

A 30-point deduction will push Manchester City straight into the relegation zone at the moment. Last season, a 60-point deduction at the end of the season would have put City into the bottom three behind Leicester City. The sanctions are not clear at present. However, more can be expected as the date of the trial comes closer.
