Martin Tyler has been associated with the Premier League ever since its inception in 1992. Voted as the FA Premier League Commentator of the Decade, it’s surprising why Tyler chose to leave his $1 million per year job with Sky Sports. However, as per Daily Mail, Sky Sports has axed more than half of their soccer reporting team with as many as six esteemed reporters getting fired.
As per the sources, acclaimed interviewer Geoff Shreeves was also asked to take a massive pay cut. While Shreeves will reportedly accept the pay cut and will continue to work at Sky Sports, Martin Tyler wasn’t offered a new contract. However, the 77-year-old veteran commentator will leave behind wonderful memories with his poetic commentary.
It’s impossible to boil down a 33-year career behind a microphone to a single clip but for Martin Tyler, the “Aguerooooo!” moment is about as close as you’ll get.

Martin Tyler’s most iconic piece of commentary is on Sergio Aguero‘s title-winning goal for Manchester City in the final game of the 2011-12 season. The goal brings back the memories of Tyler’s frenzied “Agueroooooo” description of the former Manchester City star’s goal against QPR.

Although Martin Tyler is leaving, he is being replaced by another commentator who is no less than Tyler. He’s none other than Peter Drury, who has described the job as “the opportunity of his career.” Drury has previously worked for the BBC, ITV, BT Sports, and the Premier League Productions. He has also been voted as the Football Supporters’ Association commentator of the year for three of the past four seasons.
