Ahead of the upcoming 2024-25 season, Manchester City is once again planning something big! Over the last few years, City has managed to nail its transfer strategy after buying the likes of Erling Haaland, Ruben Dias, Rodri, and so on. However, City is reportedly on its way to snatch yet another talented soccer star and is even willing to pay a club-record fee for him.
As per several reports, Manchester City wants to sign Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala in the upcoming summer transfer window. Musiala, who has established himself as one of the best playmakers in the soccer world, would be huge boost to Pep Guardiola’s team. At just 21-years-old, Musiala has a glittering trophy cabinet, winning three Bundesliga titles, three German Super Cups, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

While Pep Guardiola boasts a star-studded side, Jama Musiala’s arrival would set Manchester City comfortably for the future. Having lost Ilkay Gundogan to FC Barcelona last summer and with Kevin De Bruyne entering into his thirties, Musiala would lead the line of City’s next generation of superstars alongside the likes of Haaland, Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez, and so on.

However, it is believed that Manchester City is not the only club that is keeping an eye on the German international. Clubs like Liverpool, PSG, and FC Barcelona are also interested in Musiala. Although, the reports suggest that City is in a pole position to sign Musiala and is also allegedly ready to pay a club-record $150 million for the 21-year-old.
Jamal Musiala has reportedly rejected Bayern Munich’s new contract offer
Despite a successful five-year stint at Bayern Munich, it is believed that Jamal Musiala will mark his exit from the club at the end of the season. While Musiala’s current contract ends in 2026, the club’s recent run of frustrating results has emerged as one of the major reasons behind the former’s decision to leave the club. However, the reports suggest that Bayern Munich‘s poor form isn’t the sole reason.
One reason can be that if Jamal Musiala chooses to leave the German giants, he is most likely to get a much higher paycheck at other big European clubs. It is believed that Musiala recently rejected Bayern’s $186,000-a-week contract offer. Despite the club’s willingness to keep Musiala at the club beyond 2026, it appears as if he has already made up his mind.
The second reason can be that Musiala might feel that Bayern Munich isn’t the right club for him to achieve his clubs. The German midfielder probably would like to win the Champions League and the Ballon d’Or in his career. Although these can be achieved at Bayern, going to a club like Manchester City might increase his chances of winning these titles sooner.
Jamal Musiala’s stint at Chelsea academy
While Jamal Musiala is a German citizen by birth, he has spent a large amount of his childhood in England. Since the age of seven till 16, Musiala lived in England. He started his soccer career in England playing for Southampton where he spent one year. In 2011, Musiala left Southampton to join the academy of the English giants Chelsea.

Musiala spent eight years at the London-based club and was a part of the club’s academy that possessed some of the brightest talents in the world. Besides Musiala, Chelsea’s academy had the likes of Mason Mount, Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah, Conor Gallagher and Callum Hudson-Odoi. Musiala made his debut for Chelsea’s U-18 side but made just three appearances before leaving England for Germany and signing with Bayern Munich.
