Lionel Messi’s future has been a huge topic of debate ever since the World Cup ended. It all started with Messi stalling the contract negotiation talks with PSG after returning from Qatar. The Argentine has been subject to massive speculations regarding his next club ever since.
The 7-time Ballon d’Or winner was recently offered a record-breaking contract by Saudi club, Al-Hilal. But reportedly Messi chose to reject the offer as he wishes to play in Europe until next year. While a return to FC Barcelona was also speculated after some recent developments.
Amid all the fiasco regarding his transfer, Lionel Messi seems to have stopped bothering about his next club. He recently talked about wanting things to happen but believes that everything is in God’s hands.

Messi said: “I don’t know what’s next, what my future holds. I like to imagine, to think about things that might happen, but I really don’t know what my future will be like. Whatever God wants it to be, it will be.”
It seems like Messi seems to have lost hope of returning to Camp Nou. The Argentine was previously left heartbroken by the club after they chose to let him go. Barcelona President’s remarks after the transfer to PSG didn’t help either as he indicated that the club didn’t regret their decision.
Did La Liga approve Lionel Messi’s return to FC Barcelona?
FC Barcelona has indicated their willingness to re-sign Messi recently with the manager, Xavi, also being in touch with his former teammate. The club had to let Messi go in 2021 after they failed to comply with La Liga’s financial rules and regulations.

But it seems like the club has done the required work this time around. Barcelona had sent a proposal to La Liga regarding Messi’s return in March which was rejected. It has now been reported that they revised the proposal recently and were given a green signal.
This would come as great news for the club’s fans who dreamt of Messi’s return ever since he was spotted in Barcelona with his former teammates. The transfer would be a spectacular one up there with Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United. While the Portuguese’s return didn’t pan out well eventually, Messi would hope that his homecoming doesn’t go the same route.
It remains to be seen whether Barcelona can do the required work and convince Messi to return. With already having mega-money offers on the table, it would be a big decision for Messi to make regarding his future.
