Lionel Messi gave an update about his famous Bordeaux Mastiff pet dog, Hulk. The Argentine told Migue Granados that the family left their pet behind in Barcelona before moving to Miami in the summer.
Migue Granados conducted an interview with Lionel Messi for the OLGA network, which went viral on social media for different topics and bits. However, following the interview, the comedian learned the sad news from Messi that Hulk had been left behind in Barcelona due to his health and age.
Hulk, Messi's best friend! 🐶
Becoming part of the Messi family in 2016, Hulk was gift from Antonela Roccuzzo to her husband! And what a gift! Hulk is a Bordeaux mastiff, one of the oldest French dog breeds. Hulk is seven years old, which is old age for any Bordeaux Mastiff. Messi’s family decided to spare Hulk the pain and discomfort of a cross-Atlantic journey to Miami for his move to Inter Miami.
Hulk is currently in Barcelona in the luxurious home of Lionel Messi in Castelldefels, a suburban area near Camp Nou stadium. Hulk’s day-to-day needs are fulfilled by the staff present at Messi’s home in Barcelona.
Lionel Messi welcomed Hulk into the family when he was just a pup back in 2016. He was a gift from Messi’s wife Antonela Roccuzzo. The couple regularly shared pictures and videos of Hulk on social media, which made their pet dog a fan favorite among the fan base. One of the videos in which Lionel Messi was playing with Hulk in his backyard went viral back in the day, which made the dog even more famous among soccer fans.
Bordeaux Mastiffs Lifespan
Lionel Messi also revealed to Granados that Hulk is nearing an age where they might have to put him to sleep by euthanasia. The Bordeaux Mastiffs are a large French mastiff breed with a life expectancy of five to eight years.
In certain cases, they might live up to 11 years, but various other factors need to align for them to reach this age. They can grow up to 27 inches and weigh around 110 pounds. Hulk has been with Messi since he was a pup and lived in the best conditions possible.

Hulk is reaching the age where this breed is expected to struggle due to old age. As the years move on, Messi and his family will have to face the reality of saying goodbye to a cherished family member.
Lionel Messi and Antonela Roccuzzo have also stopped sharing photos of Hulk on their Instagram over the past few years, which has grown the speculation that Hulk has been in bad condition for a few years.
On the bright side, Hulk has been living his best life during the last few years in a luxurious villa in Barcelona surrounded by staff that are catering to his every need, which should ease the pain of old age for him.
