It looks like Kylian Mbappe can’t catch a break at this moment. Although players of his age are mostly considered youngsters or up-and-coming next big thing in soccer, Mbappe achieved a ‘Superstar’ tag a few years back now. His most recent injury scare has put the Frenchman under massive doubt for PSG’s upcoming Champions League draw against Bayern Munich.
Mbappe is enjoying a fantastic season with the French giants sitting at the top of the league. He has scored 25 goals in 28 matches for PSG across all competitions. Currently, he is second in the Golden Boot race of Ligue 1 with 13 goals. Arsenal loanee Florian Balogun, who is playing for Reims, is at the top with 14 goals.
PSG is easily the strongest team in French soccer and they have made a habit of winning the Ligue 1 title, year after year. However, in Europe PSG has always fallen short against bigger European clubs, with history. The Champions League is a trophy they are yet to get their hands on. In the 2019-20 Champions League season they reached the final of the competition. But they couldn’t dislodge the tournament favorites Bayern Munich.

Last year, however, the kings of Europe, Real Madrid had a ridiculous spree of comebacks in the knock-out stages of the competition. They started their comeback spree against PSG. PSG has strengthened the team with further reinforcements this season and performed really well in the group stages. Kylian Mbappe especially has been in electric form in the Champions League.
Last night, a thigh injury has put Kylian Mbappe’s availability to play on February 14 in the Champions League round of 16 tie against Bayern Munich. Galtier however, spoke about Mbappe’s injury to French Football News. He said, “He took a blow to the knee, behind the thigh, about Mbappe”. Galtier added, “He also has pain in the muscle. We think it’s not too serious,” about the seriousness of Mbappe’s injury.
How did Kylian Mbappe get injured?
Kylian Mbappe had a night to forget yesterday. PSG started the match strongly, despite Neymar’s absence through an injury. In the seventh minute of the match, PSG got a penalty through VAR’s decision. Mbappe is the first-choice penalty taker and he missed the penalty. Due to goalie infringement, the spot kick was retaken. Kylian Mbappe hit the crossbar this time and skied the follow-up.

Lionel Messi’s reaction to all that caused quite a stir in the media. Kylian Mbappe’s night went worse. Montpellier defender Leo Leroy made an attempt to stop the Frenchman through the wings. And that tackle around the 20th minute of the match made Mbappe clutch his hamstring in agony. Galtier took him off moments after that.
Kylian Mbappe went off to the field without any assistance, although he limped a bit. His substitution by Galtier looked rather cautious. He didn’t take any chances with Mbappe as there are important matches upcoming in the league as well as the Champions League. By the club’s outlook, Mbappe’s availability looks positive in the Bayern Munich clash, which is still a couple of weeks away.
