Kylian Mbappe and France’s heartbreak at the 2022 World Cup at the hands of Argentina is well documented. The iconic final is considered one of the best World Cup finals of all time; however, an older clip of Cristiano Ronaldo has added a superstitious layer to the discussion.
An older clip of Cristiano Ronaldo is making the rounds on social media, where Ronaldo discusses his superstitious side. He comments on the video about how he never touched a trophy before the final of the tournament. According to him, it brings bad luck to the proceedings. The comments were followed by some clips where players touched the trophy before a final and ended up on the losing side.
In the video montage, the important bit came when Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe were filmed near the FIFA World Cup. On the one hand, Lionel Messi didn’t touch the trophy; on the other hand, the camera caught Kylian Mbappe touching the base of the prestigious trophy.

What happened in the final after that is well documented. Online fans are arguing whether there was some superstitious factor in Lionel Messi’s iconic World Cup triumph. The discussion is also focused on what would have happened if Mbappe hadn’t ignored Cristiano Ronaldo’s advice.
It is to be noted that, apart from the superstitious element, there isn’t much weight in the advice of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese has won many trophies in his career but has also been on the losing end of quite a few. There are many holes in this advice, which was also argued in the comments section of the video.
Kylian Mbappe’s comments after losing the FIFA World Cup
There were no immediate comments from Kylian Mbappe after he lost the final in Qatar. The first comments came around ten days later when the Frenchman scored a winner from the spot for the 10-man PSG against Strasbourg in Ligue 1.
Mbappe was asked his thoughts on the final and the celebrations of the Argentine team, led by goalkeeper Emi Martinez. The French forward’s comments were more focused on his then-teammate, Lionel Messi.

Mbappe said, “I chatted with him [Messi] after the game. I congratulated him because it was the quest of a lifetime for him. For me too, but I failed, so you always have to be a good player. [Their] celebrations are not my problem. I won’t waste energy on such trivial things”.
The French forward kept it classy and was unbothered about the Argentine celebration. The same could be expected if someone pointed out this advice from Cristiano Ronaldo to him. Mbappe might not want to add more spotlight on a final that didn’t go his way.
