This situation helps the midfielder as he can switch his allegiance to Ghana in the future if he wishes to play for the African nation. Mainoo’s background gives him the option to represent the African nation instead of England. As per reports, the manager of the senior national team, Gareth Southgate, convinced Mainoo to pursue his career in England and the youth national team.
The midfielder agreed with Southgate but can easily switch up in the future if he fails to get a national call-up. Mainoo signed a contract extension with Manchester United back in February 2023. As per his current contract, the young midfielder is tied to Manchester United till the summer of 2027.
