Manchester City is reportedly edging closer to acquiring their new target Jeremy Doku. After signing Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol, Doku will be City’s third signing in this transfer window. The 2023 Premier League champions were also planning to buy West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta. However, the recent betting allegations against Paqueta have put the transfer talks on hold.
Jeremy Doku will be the perfect replacement for ex-Manchester City forward Riyad Mahrez. Mahrez, who spent five seasons at the Premier League club, recently joined the Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli for $38.2 million. Doku has been impressive at his current club, Stade Rennes. Doku has scored 12 goals for the Ligue 1 club after he joined the club in 2020.
Jeremy Doku has also established himself in Belgium’s squad, having been capped 14 times. He was also a part of the Belgian squad at the 2022 World Cup. Known for his dribbling abilities and rapid pace, Doku is also known as the Belgian Flash. While City looks to fill in the void left after Mahrez’s move, they are also facing the risk of losing Bernardo Silva.
There have been talks of Bernardo Silva leaving City for FC Barcelona. However, Pep Guardiola is confident they will get the Portuguese international to sign a new contract soon. Moreover, Guardiola is yet to find a replacement for his midfield maestro, Kevin De Bruyne. De Bruyne, who suffered a hamstring injury on matchday 1, is currently set to be sidelined for at least the rest of 2023.

Manchester City has allegedly agreed to sign Jeremy Doku from Stade Rennes for $65 million, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. Despite interests from Chelsea and West Ham, Doku only wanted Manchester City. However, there is no information about his expected salary at City. Although the former Rennes winger will except an increase in his salary than what he is currently earning at the Ligue 1 club.
