Kylian Mbappe has blasted PSG over Lionel Messi’s controversial departure from the club. The warning has come in the aftermath of Mbappe expressing his desire to not renew his contract with PSG. The French star’s contract runs out in 2024, but he has the option of a one-year extension. However, Mbappe revealed that extending his contract has never been in his plans.
Lionel Messi played his final game for PSG earlier this month in a 3-2 defeat against Clermont. Messi‘s decision to leave the club has been known for quite some weeks now. Despite joining the club in a heavily celebrated transfer window, Messi’s stint at PSG didn’t go exactly according to plan. The Argentine star couldn’t deliver for PSG in the Champions League.

Moreover, Messi’s last few days at the club saw him get suspended by PSG for his unsanctioned trip to Saudi Arabia. In addition to this, Messi has been heavily booed and whistled by the PSG fans. The PSG Ultras even once gathered outside the club’s training ground and hurled abuse at the former Barcelona star. However, the treatment meted out to the former PSG star hasn’t been appreciated by Mbappe.

As per reports, Mbappe said, “He’s one of the greatest players in the history of football. It’s never good news when someone like Messi leaves. I don’t quite understand why so many people were so relieved that he was gone. He didn’t get the respect he deserved in France.” Mbappe’s statement comes as a warning to the PSG administration, which has been frequently subjected to criticism this season.
Kylian Mbappe denies Real Madrid rumors
Despite revealing his intention to not renew his contract with PSG next season, Kylian Mbappe has downplayed the rumors of him joining Real Madrid next season. Mbappe and Real Madrid have shared a bittersweet relationship for quite some time now. The former Monaco star has admitted that Real Madrid is his “dream club” and has often expressed his desire to play for the Merengues.
🚨 Kylian Mbappé: “I didn’t ask to leave PSG or to join Real Madrid. I just told the club that I won’t activate the option to extend the contract until June 2025”.
“We never discussed new deal with PSG but I’m happy to stay here next season”, told Gazzetta dello Sport. pic.twitter.com/XQenUQZats

Kylian Mbappe, however, has denied any rumors of him joining Real Madrid next season. He said, “I didn’t ask to leave PSG or to join Real Madrid. I just told the club that I won’t activate the option to extend the contract until June 2025. We never discussed a new deal with PSG but I’m happy to stay here next season.”
Real Madrid’s initial interest in Mbappe was piqued in 2017 when he was still playing for Monaco. While Mbappe joined PSG, he came very close to joining Madrid in 2021. The Spanish club reportedly offered $260 million for Mbappe, which PSG ultimately rejected. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and French President Emmanuel Macron pulled out all the stops to ensure that Mbappe stays in Paris.
Mbappe ultimately extended his contract with PSG until 2024, which left a bitter taste in the mouths of Real Madrid. Perez even famously stated that the club would not go again after the 24-year-old star. However, it appears as if the club is once again willing to go down the rabbit hole in their attempt to sign Kylian Mbappe, especially after the departure of Karim Benzema.
