Kylian Mbappe is the only player in the world who can start transfer speculation in the middle of the season. The French superstar is one of the hottest properties in the world as his current contract with PSG runs down in the latest season. Among the possible destinations, Bayern Munich’s name is being lined up after latest comments from Thomas Tuchel.
Speaking to Canal+, the German boss talked about Mbappe: “Mbappe free next year? Yes, He will play for us. Kylian is Kylian, he is very intelligent. We had a good relationship. If he wants to come to Bayern, I will go and get him myself. When he wants something, he gets it.”

The comments from the former PSG manager were enough for every major outlet to speculate about a possible move for Mbappe to the Bundesliga. The desire for Mbappe was evident in the comments for Tuchel. However, the German side will face heavy competition from heavyweights from La Liga and the Premier League.
Kylian Mbappe’s current contract with PSG
One of the biggest reasons for these speculations is the fact that it was revealed in the summer of 2023 that Kylian Mbappe has refused to extend his contract with PSG. The forward joined the Paris-based side back in 2017, initially on a loan move, which turned into a permanent move in 2018.
The French superstar signed an extension in 2022 for two years with an option for a further third if both parties mutually agree. However, earlier this summer, reports revealed that Mbappe won’t be renewing for the third year, which confirmed that he could walk away from PSG in 2024 as a free agent.
PSG is trying to extend the contract with Mbappe to avoid losing him for free. However, at present, all the attempts to renew have been unsuccessful. Losing Mbappe for free would have a major impact on the French club due to FFP regulations.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid has been chasing Mbappe for almost a decade. They lost the race to sign the French international on two occasions. They came second best to Monaco and PSG in 2013 and 2017. The long chase recently concluded when reports from Spain announced that the Spanish club has moved on from Mbappe to focus on other targets.
Relationship between Kylian Mbappe and Thomas Tuchel
Circling back to Bayern Munich, the German club might have some head start with Mbappe due to the relationship between Tuchel and the French international. Thomas Tuchel managed PSG from July 2018 to December 2020.
During his stint with the club, the German manager led PSG to their best finish in the UCL when they finished as the runner-up to Bayern Munich in the 2019/20 season. Mbappe was influential in this run and shined under the management of Tuchel.

German reports believe that Tuchel’s role at the German club might give Bayern Munich an edge over other suitors in the race to sign the talented French forward. The latest comments from Tuchel also hinted at the healthy relationship between the duo.
How will Bayern Munich line up with Kylian Mbappe
There are a few roadblocks for the German club if they want to sign Mbappe. One of the biggest ones is the wages of the French superstar and whether the German club can afford it. The other big roadblock is the position of left-wing at the German club.
At present, Leroy Sané, Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman, and Jamal Musiala all are viable options for the wing positions at the German club. It would be interesting to see if the French international will be willing to move to a club that is so stacked in wing positions.
🚨 At the end of his contract in June 2024, Kylian Mbappé is wanted by two major European clubs: Liverpool and Bayern Munich. 👀

However, it is obvious that Mbappe has the highest ceiling among all these options, but the German club might weigh their options before moving for the French superstar. In an ideal world, Kylian Mbappe should line up at left wing with Harry Kane in the center forward role. On the right wing, Leroy Sané and Serge Gnabry can fight it out for a starting place.
Bayern Munich is a strong contender to land Mbappe in 2024 due to various factors. However, the German club needs to shift some pieces internally in order to wave off the competition from Liverpool and Real Madrid.
