SUMMARY
- Rasmus Hojlund scored the early opener for Manchester United vs Tottenham, a game that ended 2-2.
- The Danish striker moved from Atalanta for a huge figure, but has had a tough start to his United career so far.
Rasmus Hojlund set high expectations for himself after impressive spells for Atalanta and Copenhagen. Manchester United paid a hefty $82 million figure, one that left the soccer world speechless. Hojlund was a fairly well-known player before moving to Old Trafford, but many believed that the Danish striker was not worth the huge transfer figure that United paid.
The player has had a tough start to life in Manchester as well. He has not been able to fill in Cristiano Ronaldo’s shoes, the striker he was brought in to replace. Hojlund has managed to score just 7 goals in 25 games so far. Five of these goals have come in the UEFA Champions League, from which the Red Devils were knocked out as well. Unfortunately for the young striker, he has managed to only bag two goals in sixteen Premier League games.
But he got off to a flying start against Tottenham recently, scoring the opener in the third minute. He fired it onto the roof of the net after being fed by Marcus Rashford, who slotted home the second goal later in the first half as well. Hojlund took this opportunity to hit back at his critics.
Hojlund on taking time to score: “I know there is pressure when you come here but I am 21 next month. I am a young player, I have loads of time. There is pressure when you are a football player for #mufc.” [MOTD]

The United Stand’s X account claimed that Hojlund said, “I know there is pressure when you come here but I am 21 next month. I am a young player, I have loads of time. There is pressure when you are a football player for [Manchester United].”
Hojlund makes a humbling request to fans to be patient for the goals to come in and reassures them that he has plenty left in the tank to give to the United team.
Rasmus Hojlund speaks about Marcus Rashford partnership
Manchester United had spells during the game when they were on the front foot. Scott McTominay missed a huge chance later in the second half. The converted header would have surely given the 13x league champions their win. Tottenham, on the other hand, were relentless. They managed to come back from behind twice and fought until the end for a well-deserved draw.
It would be safe to claim that the 2-2 draw is the most accurate outcome of the game, considering how both teams had equal chances to capitalize. Christian Romero also hit the bar in the first half, after managing to get free from Kobbie Mainoo.
Speaking after the game, Hojlund said to MUTV, “I was happy to give Marcus an assist today, he’s been assisting me many times throughout the season. I was very happy to give back to him and we have a great relationship, on and off the pitch. He’s a good bloke.”
Hojlund assisted the second goal for Rashford, who finally ended the goal drought at Old Trafford. United were decent on attack against Tottenham but failed to keep their London opponents at bay, especially from set pieces.
