SUMMARY
- Ronaldo's exit from Manchester United due to backlash from Erik ten Hag is still talked about.
- Strachan thinks Man United was right to let Ronaldo go.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit from Manchester United due to backlash from the Dutch manager Erik ten Hag has been a topic of conversation to date. While most of the pundits were in support of the Portuguese international, a former Manchester United player, Gordon Strachan recently made a revelation against him.
Strachan who played for the Red Devils from 1984 to 1989 believes that the club made the right call to force Ronaldo out. He reasoned his statement stating that the current Al-Nassr striker was impacting the club’s long-term plans.
The former Scottish soccer coach also mentioned the fact of how Ronaldo would have complained about a few things which he didn’t like. Following an interview with the sales CRM software sweep.io, he said, “It was definitely time for him to go; he’d made a few grumbles about being there and a few other things. Whatever you think, he was past his best as well.”

Goal-scoring was never a problem for Ronaldo. Keeping that in mind Strachan added, “He can still score goals, that’s fine. It was to the detriment of Manchester United that you’re trying to pack a team around a 38-year-old.”
Strachan also brought Ronaldo’s work-rate into question after comparing it to Liverpool’s work-rate as a team this season. According to him, Ronaldo was never the type of player who would close opposition teams down, even for Real Madrid. He said, “They would have seven players behind the ball whilst Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, and Karim Benzema stayed up front and didn’t track back. That was 10 years ago.”
Manchester United parted ways with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner after he openly criticized Erik ten Hag in an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan.
Gordon Strachan believes Manchester United winger Antony reminds him of Cristiano Ronaldo
Former Manchester United midfielder, Gordan Strachan made a unique observation regarding the Brazilian winger Antony back in April 2023. He feels that the former Ajax man has some similarities with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo who started his career for Manchester United as a right winger, has somewhat a similar kind of start to that of Antony. Both were dismissed from first-team action for their lack of end product.

He said, “Well, he has assets. He kind of reminds me of Ronaldo, although it’s never nice to throw another name in the mix. He seems to think he is, but I don’t think he’s anywhere near as good as Ronaldo. There’s too much work on the ball. When Ronaldo first got there, at that point you had people in the team who would tell Ronaldo the truth and say ‘Excuse me, we don’t want you dancing about when you can cross it in earlier!”
However, Ronaldo went on to become one of the greatest players of all time, Antony is still yet to win the faith of his manager Erik ten Hag. Now it is to see what future lies with the Brazilian winger at the Old Trafford.
