Real Madrid has recently released a stunning video showing how their new retractable pitch at the Santiago Bernabeu works. Renovation work at the Spanish giants’ stadium began over two years ago. But the video shows that it was worth the wait.
In the above-mentioned video, it is shown how the fully retractable pitch can be stored beneath the stadium with just one click of a button. When it comes to the matchday, the pitch can be moved back to ground level with the different sections of the surface sliding into place as part of a slick operation. The maintenance of the quality of the pitch is of utmost importance. And it seems Madrid has left no stone unturned in this end.
Fans are reportedly very excited to see the new Santiago Bernabeu stadium and the new retractable pitch system. Many even took to social media to share their views. One fan wrote, “Precision engineered!!!” Another fan said, “It’s such a beauty to behold.” A third fan said, “Florentino Perez is a visionary president, he should be remembered for this top-notch technology, taking the annual income to over €460m from a mere €170m.”

Many are speculating that this renovation will be a game-changer for Real Madrid in terms of generating revenue. People feel that this investment will now help the club generate billions and thrive financially.
Although it is still early to say whether this move will turn out to be profitable for the club, will this help the club grow financially? Or will all this investment have no impact at all? Only time can tell.
Inside Real Madrid’s new $1 billion dollar revamped Santiago Bernabeu
Spanish Giants Real Madrid has played its first game in the renovated Santiago Bernabéu stadium. The revamp is done by architecture studios L35, Ribas & Ribas, and GMP Architecten. The entire project has reportedly cost the club nearly €1 billion. The money has been financed by JP Morgan and Bank of America at a fixed interest rate of around 1.53%.
The 13-time UCL champions returned to the stadium to play their league game against Getafe on September 2, 2023. It was the club’s first game since the renovation began.
A video was released on the club’s official social media account ahead of the first match in the renovated stadium. It showed the structure along with its state-of-the-art status with its new retractable pitch. The new design allows the stadium to be used for large-scale events; the retractable pitch will be housed on six underground levels. The stadium now also features an underground irrigation system and ultraviolet lighting for the maintenance of the quality of the grass.

The renovation has also increased the capacity of the stadium from around 81,000 to 85,000. Although they just had an attendance of over 66,000 in the last game against Getafe, the UCL games are expected to boost the revenue of the stadium.
As mentioned earlier, Real Madrid is optimistic about generating a large part of their revenue from the new stadium. And they feel that the new and advanced features of Santiago Bernabeu will help them do just that.
