The Premier League has all the biggest soccer stars from around the world. The diverse team poses some challenges for the fans, who are challenged by the difficult pronunciation of the names of their favorite players. The Premier League solved this issue by releasing a dedicated video to help the fans.
In the video, various players came in front of the camera and pronounced their names to clear up the doubts once and for all. To start the video, Liverpool summer signing Dominik Szoboszlai came and pronounced his name as ‘Do-min-ik Sob-oss-lye.‘ Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol came in second and pronounced his name as ‘Yosh-Ko Vardy-ol‘.

Rasmus Hojlund pronounced his name as ‘Razz-mus Hoy-lun’, whereas Mykhailo Mudryk cleared doubts about his name with the pronunciation, ‘Me-kyle-o Moo-drick.‘ Kevin de Bruyne also made an appearance in the video and pronounced his name as ‘Kev-in De Bruh-ner‘ followed by Bruno Fernandes, who pronounced his name as ‘Bru-no Mig-el borj Fer-nanj‘.
Thiago Alcântara also made his once-in-a-blue appearance and pronounced his name as ‘Tee-aa-gow Al-kan-taa-ruh.‘ He was followed by Alejandro Garnacho, who pronounced his name as ‘Al-handro Har-na-cho.‘ Some other Premier League players from mid-table teams also made appearances, but the video ended with a manager. Pep Guardiola came and pronounced his name as ‘Pep Gwar-dee-ola.’
Fans react to the right pronunciation for Premier League players
The video gained more than eight million views in the first 12 hours on ‘X’, formerly known as Twitter. The correct pronunciation drew some hilarious reactions from fans who were stumped by these Premier League stars. Bruno Fernandes surprised the fans the most.
Many fans noticed earlier that FIFA and UEFA commentators were pronouncing the surname of Manchester United’s midfielder as ‘Fer-nanj’ during international matches. Many thought that the international commentators were making a mistake.
The issue was that the Premier League pronunciation was different for the midfielder. However, this video set the record straight: the pronunciation by the international commentators was always on point. Premier League commentators need to catch up after this video.
Few others made fun of Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara, who made his appearance in the 2021/22 jersey of Liverpool. It is clear that the clip was from an older season, but the fact that all other players were wearing updated kits made Thiago stand out and an easy target for memes.

There were also many in the comment section who straight-up refused to address the clarification and declared that they would continue to pronounce these names as they preferred. Fans argued that these clarifications, although necessary, only made the job harder for them. It is clear that fans are happy in their current position; however, the effort from the Premier League is commendable.
