SUMMARY
- Idrissa Gana Gueye a former Everton player who later joined PSG.
- Even after moving to the French side he used to actively watch his old team play.
It’s a given fact that soccer players joke around with one another frequently. The spirit of fun never fades, whether it’s executing ridiculous practical jokes or pulling each other’s legs. In a similar vein, a former player for Paris Saint-Germain disclosed that although Kylian Mbappe “liked to watch” Everton matches, Lionel Messi would frequently make light of the Premier League team, which would make things “difficult” for him.
In the summer of 2019, Idrissa Gana Gueye may have moved to Paris from Everton, but his heart was still at Goodison Park. The midfielder persevered through thick and thin in 2021, cheering on the Toffees and witnessing their matches from the French metropolis, even though they were facing relegation. Notably, Mbappe was one of his PSG teammates who liked to watch the Merseyside club.

“Mbappe, yeah, he would watch. He liked to watch every game,” stated Gueye, as per Liverpool Echo. But Messi was the one who used to speak candidly about Gueye’s previous soccer club. When inquired whether La Pulga had ever watched Everton play, he replied, “No. It was difficult for me because we were losing a lot and he would say, ‘Bro, come on, you see your team is losing and playing like this?’ but it was funny.”
Messi scoffed at Everton’s performance, but Gueye didn’t seem to take the antics seriously. He even sent a few messages to his former teammates encouraging them to pull out of the relegation zone. It’s interesting to note that Lionel Messi wasn’t the only one to make fun of Gueye for Everton’s subpar performance.
Lionel Messi was not the only one to make fun of Everton FC
In addition to Lionel Messi, Idrissa Gueye had to deal with Julian Draxler, another colleague at PSG, and his antics. He said, “I remember Draxler every time we lose, he would go, ‘You see your team, they are not good!’ and I would say, ‘We will survive,'” Thankfully, Everton defeated Crystal Palace on the last day to prevent relegation, which made Gueye feel proud of his team.

The Senegalese midfielder expressed confidence in the Toffees’ ability to stay in the Premier League, even if Draxler told Gueye that his team was “lucky.” Remarkably, Gueye, who returned to Everton in 2022, had pleaded with the German midfielder to play with him at Goodison Park before Draxler joined Qatar’s Al Ahli.
Idrissa Gueye shared his views on the best finisher and dribbler at PSG
When asked about the best finisher and the dribbler on the PSG roster, Gueye said: “The best finisher? Messi! It’s incredible; he doesn’t hit; he passes on goal. The most technical and the best dribbler? Neymar is very, very strong! Ball at the foot, if he wants, there is no one who can take the ball from him!”
