As the midfielder reached the stands, many little boys of different ethnicities approached the Argentine for his jersey. However, Fernandez stopped and ignored the boys to give another fan his jersey, who had white skin and complexion.
The strange incident raised eyebrows and fans called out the midfielder for racism against those little boys who were Chelsea fans. They revealed that ethnicity and skin color weren’t the reasons why Fernandez gave his jersey to that specific fan. The fan was wearing merchandise of River Plate which had a huge connection with the Argentine midfielder. Enzo Fernandez started his career at River Plate and it is clear from the video that he is still close with the fan base of the Argentine club.

The racism claims against Enzo Fernandez were smashed quickly on social media. Various videos started popping up on social media where the Argentine midfielder can be seen with Chelsea fans of different ethnicities. The current incident was misjudged by some fans who didn’t realize the connection between the fan and the River Plate club.
Fernandez started his career with the youth team of River Plate in 2018. He slowly moved up in the ranks of the Argentine club and made his debut for the senior team in the summer of 2021. The midfielder made 53 appearances for the Argentine club and scored 22 goal contributions.

He spent one season with the senior team of the River Plate. He moved to Benfica in the summer of 2022 as his first move in European soccer. The midfielder spent 15 months with the Portuguese club before moving to Chelsea in the winter transfer window of 2023.
