Bastian Schweinsteiger is one of the greatest midfielders of the 21st century. The German and Bayern Munich legend is often remembered for his versatility and well-rounded game. Since his retirement back in 2020, the German has rarely been discussed among soccer fans. This time around, the knees of the legendary midfielder is in the spotlight.
A recent clip of Dr. Renan Koplewski went viral where he was discussing athletic injury and the connection of tooth bacteria to various other parts of the body. During the discussion, he brought up the story of Schweinsteiger.

As per the story, the German midfielder was struggling with knee problems throughout his career. Before the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the right knee became a major issue. Nothing worked for the midfielder, from injections to even surgery. After every stone was turned, someone in the team suggested visiting the dentist for the issue.
As per the request, the midfielder consulted a dentist, who diagnosed a damaged canal with a small lesion at the bottom of the root. The lesion was the issue as it impacted by releasing chemical compounds, inflammatory compounds, which set into the joints through the bloodstream. The dentist solved the issue and the rest is history, as Bastian Schweinsteiger never had a knee issue again.
Bastian Schweinsteiger’s injury record during his career
The story is not confirmed by the camp of the German midfielder which raises some eyebrows. On a closer look at the injury record of the German, the image becomes clearer. There were some slight improvements in the knee issues after 2015. As per transfermrkt, Schweinsteiger suffered several patellar tendon problems and tendon irritation around 2014 which kept him out for more than 120 days.
The Patellar tendon problems were a big one. He was out of action due to this issue for more than 100 days and 48 games for Bayern Munich and Germany in 2014. In 2015, it can be a safe assumption that the German legend visited the dentist. Post-2015, Schweinsteiger suffered fewer knee-related issues, with an Inner knee ligament tear in 2016 the only incident where his knee gave him problems.

Schweinsteiger made 664 appearances at club level, in which he scored 81 goals and 113 assists. For the German national team, he made 121 appearances, where he scored 24 goals. One can only imagine how these numbers would have looked if he hadn’t been held back by continuous knee problems.
The legend of Schweinsteiger grew even larger, considering he was nursing knee issues during the best years of his career. Even with these knee problems, Schweinsteiger ended his career with a big trophy cabinet. He won a FIFA World Cup, eight Bundesliga titles, one UCL title with Bayern Munich, and 16 more cup trophies across Europe.
