- Palmer is known as 'Cold Palmer' for his nonchalant yet effective playing style and lack of emotion while celebrating goals.
Cole Palmer has quickly become one of the stars of the Chelsea set-up. The 21-year-old hadn’t featured much for his former team, Manchester City and fans had little hope for him. The Englishman doesn’t have the physical prowess of that of a Premier League. But he has compensated for his lack of strength with his exquisite technique and skills.
The 21-year-old has been the shining star for a dismal Chelsea team in the 23/24 Premier League season. ‘The Blues’ have accumulated just 31 points from their opening 21 fixtures in the PL, and are a lowly 8th on the table. Palmer on the other hand has fit right into the 2-time UEFA Champions League winner’s team and has been carrying his team on the back for quite some time now.
The Englishman has built up a reputation for being a very ‘cold’ player at the London club. Palmer rarely shows any emotions while celebrating goals and plays in a very nonchalant yet effective way. This has earned him the nickname of ‘Cold Palmer.’
Palmer’s new celebration has become the talk of the town. The celebration involves rubbing down your arms in a way that one’s shivering. Cole Palmer has finally revealed the reason behind his special celebration.
The first display of the celebration came after the game against Luton Town FC on December 30, 2023. The 21-year-old scored a brace to help his team score a brace and performed his shivering celebration after scoring both goals. The Englishman attributed the celebration to the fans on social media commenting ‘Cold’ on his posts. It is a form of respect that the Englishman shows for his supporters
Cole Palmer arrived at the London club from Manchester City in the summer of 2023 for a fee close to $45 million. He found it difficult to break into the star-studded lineup of ‘The Cityzens’ and that is when Chelsea came calling.
Cole Palmer copied the ‘shivering’ celebration from his former teammate
The Englishman’s celebration however had an interesting inspiration behind his celebration. In a post-match after the Luton Town game interview with TNT Sports (via Daily Mail), Palmer revealed the true inspiration behind his famous celebration. The 21-year-old was accompanied by his Chelsea teammate Noni Madueke during the interview.
The Chelsea number 20 said that he had the idea of doing the shivering celebration from his teammate at Man City’s academy, Morgan Rodgers. Rogers had done the same celebration when he scored for Middlesborough against West Brom in an EFL Championship game.
The 21-year-old, though, had taken prior permission from Morgan to copy his celebration. Palmer said, “I told him (Rogers) I’d do it.”
Cole Palmer has brilliant composure for a 21-year-old and remains very cool under pressure. This was evident in his second goal against Luton Town where he beat challenges from several defenders and the goalkeeper to place the ball in the opposition’s net.
After Palmer, described how he managed to score the goal, Noni Madueke who scored Chelsea’s third goal in a 3-2 win for Chelsea, chipped in to praise the former Man City player. He said, “That’s why they call him Cold Palmer, innit?”
Cole Palmer has been excellent for Chelsea in the 23/24 season. The Englishman has 13 goal contributions in his opening 17 PL games for Chelsea. The Englishman would be hoping to carry his form along, as Chelsea aims for European soccer.
