Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes is not happy with the penalty incident against Tottenham Hotspur in their second match of the season. The incident took place in the presence of the referee John Moss. The first half of the match ended 0-0. The penalty incident took place just before the end of the first half when a strike from Manchester United’s player Alezandro Garnacho hit the hands of the Spurs defender- Romero.
Manchester United‘s attacking midfielder was not happy with the referee’s decision to not give the penalty. Spurs got the lead through their new summer signing Pape Matar Sarr in the 49th minute and went on to win the match 2-0, with United’s defender Lisandro Martinez scoring an own goal. Fernandes was seen fuming in the post-match interview that the referee wasn’t even suggested by the VAR to have a look at the incident in the pitch side monitor.

The Portuguese also mentioned the incident which happened last week at Old Trafford. Wolves were denied a penalty opportunity by the on-field referee and VAR. He said that Wolves were offered an apology by the officials. The player hopes that the officials will give United an apology for not making the right call and awarding them the penalty.
Bruno Fernandes seems 100% confident that the wrong call was made. He believes the incident should have resulted in a penalty for his team. Manchester United may have taken the lead just before half-time in such a crucial match. That would have lifted their spirits after a winning yet negative performance against Wolves.
Who is Manchester United facing next?
Manchester United will be facing Nottingham Forest in their next outing at Old Trafford on August 26. While United are coming off a defeat against Spurs, Nottingham Forest is high on confidence after a 2-1 home win against Sheffield United. Forest’s performance against Arsenal was also pretty solid, despite their 2-1 loss at the Emirates. United have been poor upfront as well and fans want Antony Martial to start against Forest.

Manchester United recently struggled against Wolves to win those mid-field battles. Against Spurs, they were also not up to the mark. Forest has Morgan Gibbs White in the attacking midfield who might create problems for United’s defensive midfield.
United’s manager Erik ten Hag will know the complexities of handling Nottingham Forest. The Manager would want the players in the mid-field area like Mason Mount, and Casemiro firing on all cylinders.
