The Manchester United and England legend Sir Bobby Charlton passed away at the age of 86 on October 21, 2023. The news has come out that Sir Bobby passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning. He lived a long and healthy life from 1937 to 2023.
Sir Bobby is considered to be one of Manchester United’s greatest-ever players, scoring 249 goals in 758 appearances for the club between 1956 and 1973. He managed to win three First Division titles with United and also the European Cup in 1968.

The renowned Journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted, “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Sir Bobby passed peacefully in the early hours of Saturday morning”. The statement from his family read, “He was surrounded by his family. His family would like to pass on their thanks to everyone who has contributed to his care and to the many people who have loved and supported him. We would request that the family’s privacy be respected at this time.
Sir Bobby is regarded as one of the greatest players the world has ever seen. Not only was he an incredible player but also he was a great person in real life. Even though he has passed away, his soccer memory will live on. Thus, he will become immortal in the soccer world.

Sir Bobby played a very big role in England’s World Cup-winning campaign in 1966, scoring the winner for the ‘Three Lions’. Furthermore, he also won the Ballon d’Or in the same campaign. The England International netted a total of 49 goals in his 106 caps for the National team.
The cause of Death of Sir Bobby Charlton
Sir Bobby had to withdraw from public life since he was diagnosed with dementia in November 2020. It happened just four months after his elder brother Jack Charlton had died aged 85. Since then, Sir Bobby had been fighting the tough battle against Dementia, and finally, on Saturday morning, October 21, he died.
David Beckham, the former Manchester United winger shared his heartfelt message for Sir Bobby Charlton as well. He wrote, “A true gentleman, a family man, and a national hero… Today is not just a sad day for Manchester United and England, it is a sad day for football and everything that Sir Bobby stood for… Our thoughts are with Lady Norma, her daughters, and his grandchildren. Rest in peace, Sir Bobby.”
