Jose Mourinho’s tenure at AS Roma
The reign of the “Special One” in Rome eventually concluded. AS Roma has formally announced that they are no longer working with Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho. When Mourinho, a Portuguese genius, joined the Italian team in May 2021, supporters bid him farewell with broken hearts.

However his 2-year tenure at AS Roma was mindblowing. Before Jose had arrived at Roma, the Italian side was 15 years trophyless made only 1 European final, won 0 European trophies, and had a half-empty stadium on average.
After Jose arrived at the club, he changed the scenario completely. He took them to 3 European finals and even won 1 European trophy with them. Not only that, literally 40 consecutive sold-out matches at the Olimpico were recorded in his tenure and revived the passion of the fallen giants once again. This is clear proof of the difference that Jose’s arrival had at the club.
Jose Mourinho opens up on the struggles he faced at AS Roma

🗣️💰 José Mourinho: “Not that I’m jealous, but Man City paid €80m for Kalvin Phillips and now Pep has said it would be better for him to leave in January. So he’ll leave and they’ll get someone else.”

Mourinho has been vocal about the struggles he faced as coach at Roma this season and said, “Our reality is very different. We’d like one, two, three or four new players… however, it’s not easy for us to do that. If we bring in a defender in January, I’ll already be happy. But if you ask me if I’d like more than that, of course, I’d like more. But it’s not possible.”
Under Mourinho, the squad has spent money, but up until this season, they have primarily relied on loan acquisitions, with Sardar Azmoun, Renato Sanches, and Romelu Lukaku coming in for a while. The lack of dedication from the board to him as well as the club did not impress him.
