SUMMARY
- Manchester City is currently at the top of the Premier League table with Arsenal at second place.
- The chances of Manchester City winning the 4th consecutive Premier League Championship has increased due to Arsenal losing against Aston Villa.
Following Liverpool and Arsenal’s league defeats earlier today, Manchester City stands at a touching distance of a historic Premier League feat. The 2023-24 Premier League has heated up with City, Liverpool, and Arsenal fighting for the trophy. While the title race until today was extremely close, the odds have now titled in City’s favor after Liverpool and Arsenal dropped points.
Earlier today, Liverpool was defeated 1-0 by Crystal Palace at their home while Arsenal lost 2-0 against Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium. The two games can have a huge impact in deciding the winner of the 2023-24 Premier League winner. With just six league games remaining this season, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have taken a slender two-point lead at the top of the table.

If Manchester City manages to win all six remaining games and avoid dropping any points, Pep Guardiola’s side will be crowned the kings of England once again. It will be Guardiola’s sixth Premier League title and the tenth overall in Manchester City’s history. However, Guardiola‘s side are on the brink of an unprecedented success- winning four back-to-back Premier League titles.
To date, no club has ever managed to win four consecutive Premier League titles. While City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Huddersfield Town have won three consecutive league titles, Guardiola’s men can be the first team to win the historic four-peat. Currently, City has four away games remaining against Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Fulham, and Tottenham Hotspur, and two home games against Wolves and West Ham.
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta refuses to concede defeat to Manchester City
Unlike Jurgen Klopp, Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is yet to admit that his team has lost the Premier League. The 2-0 league defeat against Aston Villa was a huge blow to Arsenal’s title ambitions. Despite coming so close last year and even this season, Arsenal’s twenty years of the league title drought might not be ending this year.
Speaking after the match, however, Mikel Arteta refused to admit that his side are not title challengers anymore. The Spaniard said, “If one result is going to block us, that then we are not strong enough.” Arteta further motivated his team to recover quickly from the loss and stand bravely in the face of defeat. Moreover, he also stressed the extremely high competitive level of the Premier League.

“If you want to win titles, when you have this moment you have to stand up”.

Arteta said, “In any other league in the world if you won the number of games in a row that we did, you would be six or eight points clear.” Currently, Mikel Arteta’s side is placed second in the league table with 71 points. While Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool also has 71 points, they are positioned third in the table behind Arsenal due to having an inferior goal difference.
Jose Mourinho’s astonishing prediction about Arsenal might be true after all
Meanwhile, former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho’s bold prediction about Arsenal might be coming true after all. Back in December last year, Jose Mourinho made his appearance on The Obi One Podcast. In the podcast, Mourinho was asked to predict the winner of the 2023-24 Premier League. However, Mourinho managed to leave everyone stunned with his savage answer.
Mourinho on Mikel Obi’s Podcast-
“Man city has a 51% chance of winning the EPL, Liverpool 49%”
No Arsenal?

The veteran Portuguese coach believed that Manchester City had a higher chance of winning the league but also refused to rule out Liverpool. Upon being asked about Arsenal’s chances, Mourinho rather bluntly replied, “Nah.” Interestingly, at the time he made the comment, Arsenal was ahead of Manchester City in the league table. However, Mourinho might have once again proved why he’s deservingly called ‘The Special One’.
