FC Barcelona has shifted their base this season due to renovation works going on at their iconic Camp Nou stadium. Since 1957, Camp Nou has been FC Barcelona’s home and has seen some of the best players of soccer history grace its pitch. With the renovation works expected to be over by the end of this year, the club is set to earn a mouth-watering income.
One of the major projects of FC Barcelona has been the Espai Barca project which aims to develop a modern era sports innovation hub. While the project was originally launched in 2014 with a budget of $638 million, financial mismanagement along with the COVID-19 pandemic had rendered the project shut. However, under new president Joan Laporta, the Espai Barca project has been revived with a new budget of $1.59 billion.

The seating capacity will also be extended to 104,000. Lastly, new VIP and VVIP boxes are set to be installed alongside a panoramic screen that will be installed under the canopy.

As per reports, the entire cost of the renovation of Camp Nou is a massive $939 million. However, after spending such a huge sum of money, FC Barcelona is set to earn a mouth-watering dividend. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan club expects to earn $127 million annually from the new Camp Nou. This massive influx of cash will help fund the club’s ambitious transfer targets for the near future.
FC Barcelona will host Lionel Messi’s farewell at the new Camp Nou
The renovated Camp Nou will also play host to one of its very own former players who has scored a multitude of goals in the stadium. The player is none other than FC Barcelona’s all-time top scorer, Lionel Messi. Messi, who left the club back in 2021 with tears in his eyes, didn’t get a proper farewell due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
There were reports of Messi returning to his boyhood club following his departure from PSG. However, unable to sort out the details, Messi chose to sign with Inter Miami instead. While the club supporters didn’t get to see Messi’s return, they will witness their talismanic former skipper wearing the Blaugrana colors for one more time when the Argentine ace returns for his testimonial match.
FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco have confirmed that the club will host Lionel Messi’s farewell match shortly. Although the date hasn’t been confirmed yet, it is likely to be held somewhere around June 2026 after Camp Nou returns to full capacity. It will be a nostalgic moment indeed for all Messi and Barcelona supporters to see their hero in the colors he has represented almost his entire life for one last time.
