The two teams took on each other yet again in a Premier League fixture on April 7, 2024. The match was very end-to-end, with no team willing to give up. This game truly demonstrated the high-grade soccer of the Premier League, and the fans around the globe really had a great time watching the two teams play.
The two teams share the spoils after an exciting match
As mentioned earlier, the match between Liverpool and Manchester United never disappoints the soccer world. And the same thing happened on matchday 31 of the Premier League 23/24 season. ‘The Red Devils’ hoisted the Merseyside in what turned out to be one of the best rollercoaster matches of the Premier League season.
Manchester United went into the match with many of its stalwarts injured. Players like Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, etc. were already sidelined for the game. However, just hours before the game, it was announced that Scott McTominay would also be unavailable for the game against Liverpool.
Yet Manchester United displayed great courage and resolution to keep Liverpool at bay. It looked like at a time that ‘The Red Devils’ might as well win the game altogether.

Liverpool was the first team to inflict damage on its opposition as the Merseyside team took the lead through a clean finish via Luis Diaz in the 23rd minute. ‘The Reds’ were then able to contain the Manchester United attack until halftime.
‘The Red Devils’ looked pretty inspired in the second half, as the team came all guns blazing. Manchester United played very attacking soccer from the get-go, and their efforts paid dividends in the 50th minute.
Club captain Bruno Fernandes pounced on a mistake from Liverpool’s center-back Jarell Quansah to score a fantastic goal from the half-line over the top of an advancing Caoimhin Kelleher.
🔴🇪🇬 23 goals and 13 assists this season in all competitions for Mo Salah.

Manchester United then surprisingly took the lead with the help of a great curling effort by starlet Kobbie Mainoo. This was the 18-year-old’s second goal in the Premier League in what has been a terrific debut season.
However, United’s celebration was cut short, as Mohamed Salah slotted home a penalty in the 84th minute. Manchester United has become the Egyptian’s favorite prey, with Salah scoring 14 goals in 15 games against Man Utd.
The late penalty meant that both teams had shared the points as the game finished 2-2. The teams would be very disappointed to not earn the full 3 points, as it would now favor their Premier League rivals.
Liverpool’s title ambition dealt with a major blow after the draw
Both Manchester United and Liverpool have different goals for the 23/24 Premier League season. While ‘The Red Devils’ aim to finish amongst the top 4 teams to play UCL soccer, Liverpool would want to finish ahead of everyone to pay a fitting tribute to their departing coach, Jurgen Klopp.
However, the latest match between Liverpool and Manchester United might just have spoiled both teams’ plans. The 2-2 draw means that Liverpool missed out on a chance to eclipse Arsenal to go top of the PL table. ‘The Reds’ have 71 points at the end of matchday, which ties them with first-placed Arsenal, who are ahead on goal difference.
Manchester City, with 70 points, breathes down the necks of both Liverpool and Arsenal. The Premier League title race in the 23/24 season has been a three-horse race, with no clarity over the title-win scenario as of now.

As far as Manchester United is concerned, the team’s UCL ambitions have dealt a huge blow in the past few weeks. The team has bottled leads against both Chelsea and now Liverpool in consecutive PL games. This has meant that Manchester United haven’t been able to improve their position from 6th on the table.
The record Premier League Champions have just 49 points from 31 games and are 11 points off 4th-placed Aston Villa. They also risk losing their Europa League spot, as West Ham, who are in the 7th position, just have 1 point less than United.
Despite the poor Premier League campaign, Manchester United fans must take solace in the fact that they have gotten the better of Liverpool in the 23/24 season. ‘The Red Devils’ remain undefeated against their fierce rivals after registering two draws in the PL and one dramatic victory against Liverpool in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup.

Manchester United’s record against Liverpool summarizes the team’s strange season. On the one hand, the team has lost some games that it shouldn’t have, while on the other hand, it has been successful in stopping one of the world’s best teams. However, the club is hoping to find some consistent form in the next season.
