While Achraf Hakimi’s talent as a soccer player is known all over the world, he also possesses a talent that not many people know. The Moroccan star is well-versed in as many as six different languages. Being born to Moroccan parents, Hakimi’s mother tongue is Arabic. However, he has been frequently seen speaking Spanish and French as well.
Achraf Hakimi owes his knowledge of French to his close friend and teammate at PSG, Kylian Mbappe. In an interview, he said, “I speak French well, thanks to Kylian (Mbappe).” Hakimi and his family moved to Spain when he was only a child which is why Hakimi is well-versed in Spanish. His former wife, Hiba Abouk, was also Spanish. In addition to this, Hakimi also has a working knowledge of English, German, and Italian.
Achraf Hakimi rejected Spain for Morocco
Achraf Hakimi became a hero of the entire Moroccan nation when he helped his side to the semifinals of the World Cup 2022. The story of Morocco in Qatar last year was nothing short of a fairytale, and Hakimi was one of the protagonists of the story. Despite ultimately losing to France, Morocco managed to defeat some of the heavyweights like Spain and Portugal.
Albeit if things had turned out to be different, Achraf Hakimi could have donned the famous jersey of Spain. The former Real Madrid star had been invited to join the Spanish national team during his early days. However, Hakimi refused to turn his back on his country. During an interview with MARCA, he revealed that he “did not feel at home” with the Spanish team.

I feel so happy to have played as well as we did and to have held the Moroccan flag as high as possible.” The 24-year-old enjoyed a stellar World Cup last year as he almost managed to drag his side to the final. Earlier this year, Achraf Hakimi won the Best Arab Sportsman award in Saudi Arabia.
