La Liga club Sevilla has faired decently under their head coach, Jose Luis Mendilibar. The club has lost just one out of their last seven matches since September 2023. Although they have won just two out of these seven matches, the club has drawn the remaining four. They have gotten eight points in La Liga from a possible 15 in their last five matches.
Sevilla currently sits in the 14th spot in this season’s La Liga table. The Spanish side holds the third spot in the UEFA Champions League table in Group B. The only match that Sevilla lost in their last seven games was against FC Barcelona. Even though it offers a bit of respite for their head coach, Jose Luis Mendilibar, the management of the club tends to think otherwise.
According to the reports, Sevilla has decided to part ways with their 62-year-old head coach. The club is also reported to be in search of a new head coach. This might surprise some of the fans, as the club had just recently witnessed the arrival of Sergio Ramos 34 days ago.

The former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defender joined the club as a free agent. The sacking of their head coach is a drastic step, as Mendilibar didn’t even get a fair shot to work with the experience that the 37-year-old defender brings to his team.
Jose was appointed as the manager of Sevilla in March 2023. The 62-year-old managed the club for a total of 30 matches. The Spanish-born manager averages just under one and a half points per match with the La Liga side. Some of the clubs he had earlier managed are Alaves, Levante, and Athletic Bilbao.
Potential Managerial replacements for Sevilla after the sacking of Jose Luis Mendilibar
Julen Lopetegui left the Spanish club in October 2022 after a wild defeat against Borussia Dortmund. The manager was shown the gate as the pressure mounted on him after a run of poor results. It’s not quite the trend these days to go back to the manager that a club sacks.
However, the Spaniard’s exit from Wolves this year on mutual consent does make him available for the role if the La Liga club wants him. Also, his time with the club earlier landed him the experience and know-how of the club. The veteran manager had earlier won the Europa League with the Spanish side.
Another available option for the club will be ex-Chelsea manager Graham Potter. With his exceptional work at Brighton, the English manager earned himself the spot as Chelsea’s boss. However, things didn’t quite work out for him at the Blues. Potter was sacked later. But his capability as a manager could serve a team like Sevilla adequately.
