However, Sir Alex shocked everyone with a startling prediction about Premier League title-chasers Tottenham Hotspur. He also made a bold prediction that his beloved Manchester United would finish ahead of the North London team in the PL 23/24 season.
Sir Alex Ferguson does not think Spurs can win the league in the 23/24 season
A Sky Sports journalist had approached the former ‘Red Devil’ with the question if Spurs would ever win the Premier League. Sir Alex Ferguson had a good laugh at the question and cheekily answered ‘no’ to the question. He also believed that the competitive nature of the Premier League and the advent of elite teams like Liverpool and Manchester City would leave Spurs’ title chances very faint.

He said, “The proposition today with Man City and Liverpool, they’ve been so powerful in the Premier League.” Sir Alex Ferguson’s comments seem to delight the Arsenal fans, who consider Tottenham to be their bitter rivals. At the end of matchday 24, Arsenal is one place ahead of Spurs who are in fourth, while Liverpool leads the pack with 54 points.
Sir Alex Ferguson also agreed that even Manchester United would have a hard time winning the league in the 23/24 season. However, he disagreed with the journalist’s idea that Spurs have a better chance of winning the PL than ‘The Red Devils.’
Tottenham Hotspur hasn’t won the PL since 1961
One of the prime reasons behind Sir Alex’s bewildering comments is the fact that the Spurs haven’t won the league in so long. The North London team last won the league in the 1960/61 season. Many teams currently languishing in the EFL Championship like Leeds United, Leicester City, etc. have won the league more recently than Spurs. This has awarded the team from North London for having an untrue reputation of being a trophyless club.
Part of Tottenham’s failure to win the league lies in its tight budget. For long, Tottenham Hotspur weren’t able to go toe-to-toe with the big English clubs. While its rivals were winning trophies after trophies, Spurs had to settle for mid-table mediocrity. Tottenham Hotspur also has a habit of crumbling under pressure moments and that hasn’t helped in their title ambitions.

However, the Spurs have turned the tides in their favor in the 21st century. The club has become one of the most profitable entities in the soccer world and has built an ultra-modern stadium. The team is also playing some very attractive soccer under Aussie manager Ange Postecoglou. If Tottenham Hotspur can maintain their tempo, a trophy might not be very far for them.
