SUMMARY
- Neal Maupay has copied the after-goal celebrations of James Maddison.
- This is not the first time that Neal Maupay has shown his obnoxious on-field antics during a match.
Premier League club Brentford FC’s striker, Neal Maupay, has recently been among the headlines. The 27-year-old copied the after-goal celebrations of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison. It was after he scored in Brentford’s away-from-home clash with the London-based club.
However, Spurs’ player James Maddison wasn’t too happy with the unsporty gesture shown by Neal Maupay. Maddison walked towards him, and the duo shared a reheated moment. The incident paved the way for the rest of the match, as it became quite a fierce contest.

However, this is not the first time that Neal Maupay has shown his obnoxious on-field antics during a high-octane Premier League match. Here we look at three of his unpalatable on-the-pitch conducts in the past during his soccer career in England’s top flight.
Neal Maupay’s on-field clash with Arsenal Players
In a Premier League clash against Arsenal in 2020, Neal Maupay became the center of attention for all the wrong reasons. Maupay then played for Brighton FC. The 27-year-old clashed with the Arsenal players once the referee blew the final whistle.
However, the reaction of the Arsenal players was due to the sole on-field action of Brighton’s striker. During a certain phase of the match in the first half, Maupay collided with Arsenal’s goalkeeper Bernd Leno. The collision resulted in Leno landing horribly on the ground and hurting himself. The Gunners goalkeeper had to be carried out of the playing area on a stretcher after the incident.
Heated banter with Oleksandr Zinchenko
In one of the matches of the 2022-2023 season of the English top-flight soccer Premier League, Neal Maupay again became the talk of the town due to his obnoxious on-field behavior. Playing for Everton FC, earlier in the game, the 27-year-old fouled Arsenal’s left-back, Oleksandr Zinchenko, deliberately.
However, the banter between the two players didn’t stop there. During another incident in the penalty area, Maupay catches Zinchenko on the lower part of his leg with a rash challenge. Later, Zinchenko pushes Maupay down on the pitch in sheer frustration. However, knowing that he has managed to rattle the opposition player, the Everton striker just looks at the referee cheekily, lying on the ground.
Suspension for on-field antics against Aston Villa
Things got heated between Aston Villa’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and Brentford FC’s striker Neal Maupay when Villa visited the Gtech Stadium to face the Bees. In the later stages of the match, Maupay collided with Martinez inside the penalty area. However, it was quite obvious that it wasn’t a foul by Emiliano on him. The 27-year-old deliberately dove in order to get a penalty.

The duo then exchanged vehement words. The video footage of the incident was reviewed by the match officials. It was then decided by the officials in charge that Maupay must receive a suspension for the extent of his actions. The Brentford forward then consequently received a three-game suspension.
Neal Maupay is known for his on-field attitude of getting under the opponent’s skin. Despite multiple ramifications in the past, the striker doesn’t seem to stop his knack of doing things his way. It would be a riveting watch from the neutral’s point of view to see how he gets along for the remainder of the 2023-2024 season.
