3 times when Real Madrid almost signed Kylian Mbappe
1)A young Kylian tours Real Madrid
Real Madrid was the first club to identify the potential in the French player. ‘Los Blancos’ first contacted the Paris Saint Germain captain when he was only 14 years old. The 14-time UEFA Champions League winning club reached out to Kylian’s father, Wilfrid, and asked his son to come for a week-long trial.

‘Los Blancos’ reportedly flew in the Mbappe family and gave a tour of the club facilities. The Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane became the family’s guide for the day. Kylian Mbappe also attended Real Madrid’s La Liga fixture at the Santiago Bernabeu against RCD Espanyol. The French captain also attended a training session and met several stars from the first team.
While the club hoped to seal the transfer deal, Kylian Mbappe’s entourage decided against it. His family instead preferred a move to the French side, AS Monaco for the development of their child’s soccer abilities.
2) Real Madrid wanted to send a huge bid in 2018 for the French star
By 2017, Kylian Mbappe had taken the world by storm. The 2018 World Cup winner with France was a part of AS Monaco’s iconic team that reached the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League 16/17. Kylian scored 6 goals in 9 games for the French team in the Champions League, adding a further 15 goals through his exploits in Ligue 1.

This terrific scoring record prompted many European clubs to explore the prospect of signing the 25-year-old. Real Madrid, looked to rectify its mistakes from the past and moved ahead of other clubs with a possibility of bringing Kylian to Santiago Bernabeu.
‘Los Blancos’ were even willing to send a formal bid for the Frenchman (as per Onefootball). However, Kylian Mbappe instead moved to PSG for a whopping $194 million transfer fee in the summer of 2018.
3)The dramatic transfer sage of summer 2022
The closest Real Madrid had come to signing Kylian Mbappe, has to be their pursuit of the 25-year-old in the summer of 2022. The French captain’s contract at Paris Saint Germain was due to end in June of the same year and everything pointed towards a move to La Liga. ‘Los Blancos’ had won the 21/22 Champions League and boasted one of the most talented teams in Europe at the time.

Real Madrid had also sent a $172 million offer to the French club in January, in a bid to express their interest in the French Player. Although, PSG rejected the offer, ‘Los Colchoneros’ still had the opportunity to sign Kylian Mbappe for free in the summer.
However, in a dramatic turn of events, Kylian Mbappe decided to stay at the French club. The Frenchman signed a 2-year extension at PSG, with an option for a 3rd year. The contract signed is said to be one of the biggest in soccer history. Besides, the ridiculous amount of money off, the ludicrous contract also gave Kylian a say in PSG’s sporting decisions.
Kylian Mbappe’s contract at Paris Saint Germain would expire in the summer of 2024. It would be exciting to see if the club captain decides to extend his contract or force a move out of the club, possibly to the Spanish capital, Madrid.
